yes your right about the folding seats.....but changes are that they don't get locked and when they do...the seats are much smaller and it is easier to reach in the back.

AND, the GT3 seat is FIA approved, so probably a little more reliable in a crash....and more "OEM"....

Coverage and how to read this overview
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

I am looking for real world data from people with the seat in their car (gt3) and kids/rear seat needs. How much of a PITA is having them?
I have the gt3 seat bug bad....and at DE hated the sliding.....but my family comes first.
Thanks!
Jeff
Very difficult to get in and out of the back seat with a fixed back seat. Have you thought about just installing the drivers side GT3 seat and then only putting in the pax side for DE events? Then you would have the GT3 seat on your side at all times and the ease of folding a seat forward on one side to get kiddos in easily.
I am a symmetry kind of person....just would be too weird.....
But, I am thinking about it. Just curious if anyone has the gt3 or any fixed back seats and kids. Is sliding up the seat every time something that drives you nuts?
jeff
Any one super happy with it with kids? (any fixed back really)..?
LVDell is guru in my book...so I am feeling like until the kids are too big, bag it. But, the gt3 seats hold you so well.....
I have gt3 seats with a 5 year old.... you have to remove the gt3 seats when installing/removing child seat... small booster seats are doable with the gt3 in place. Smaller child, infant...not recommended.
Its a PIA if you need to get in and take them (child) out of the seats... but if they are older and could buckle themselves and can get out by themselves... its fine.... but it definitely limits the use (but not completely) of the rear seats. If you drive with the kids all the time. I wouldnt use it... for weekend use it's fine.
Rollbar.....on the other hand
The kids can buckle themselve and they are in bottom only boosters or soon perhaps no booster for the older one of the two. We rarely use the back (once a week...)...but when I do, I want to include them on drives...
Jeff
I only have a driver's GT3 seat in my car - this way my son can sit behind the passenger side.
There's a new folding GT2 seat, you know... But it's not cheap!

This will be fine.... I have a 9 year old nephew that can get in and out. No problem, but anyone bigger will need help getting out. Just dont let go of you stockers just yet, just in case...
Guys, the gt2 seat would be ideal, but the price is just silly. If they were 2.5k, no problem, but 6k is getting into over 10% of a turbo's value almost and about 20% of a NA good car. Just silly dollars for seats IMHO.
Porsche, if you can hear this, put out a gt2 seat cheaply please. Pretty please.
So, ignoring the gt2 seat: thoughts? Experiences. Sounds like not a big deal....and once they don't fit getting back there, they probably would not fit back there sitting anyway. Safe assumption?
TIA
Jeff
Not in an advanced group, and even if I was, I like the idea of having instructors at all levels....and the same equipment for both.
Plus, I think the car looks "off" with mis-matched seats. Just my aesthetic I guess.
Thanks!
You might want to check out the Recaro Sporster CS, looks pretty similar to the GT2 seat but much less expensive. I'm caught in a similar situation and it looks like a good option.
So, some guys say no problem. Others say problem. The CS is a nice seat, but in the end, I can get used GT3 for 2k. Two CS's in leather are 3k. Less than gt2 seat, but still a lot. AND, the GT3 seat is FIA approved, so probably a little more reliable in a crash....and more "OEM"....
(I know who makes the OEM seats before someone says Recaro makes them...I realize that....)
My philosophy is that you never stop learning, so even if I was the BEST DE instructor in the world and did VIR laps at 1:49 all day, I'd sill want people in my car "instructing me" because they'd see other things in my driving....plus DE is for fun and learning. So even if I had nothing to learn (which I don't believe), I'd have a lot to teach...so the student(s) would need the seat.
Just me.
Now, anyone else have the GT3's in the car or had them for a bit, and had kids that could buckle themeselves up? Curious in the issues of kid size...did they grown out of the seat space before becoming unable to get past the gt3 seat or vice versa?
TIA
jeff
My 4.5 year old can buckle himself in - in his booster seat. My passenger seat is still stock - so his seat is behind that.
I'm not very tall (5' 8") and where I keep the driver's seat (GT3), there is just enough room for me to slide my lap top bag behind it.
If I moved the GT3 seat all the way forward, I bet he could squeeze behind it. I'd think that at 5 or 6, that squeeze would get pretty old.
I think, in the interest of your family, you should keep the factory seats and think about getting a second Porsche. A 944 turbo will be about as fast on the track, and costs about as much as those folding GT2 seats!
JCB... if you go to one of the fun drives this fall... bring your kids with you, they can try and squeeze to the back seat to give it a try.... you're prob 1.5-2hrs away or I'll see you at the Hershey meet next year
I have GT3 seats, and had the back seats in for a while. Didn't last long. Kids now preferred to ride in the other cars, like the wife's Boxster, rather than the C4S. Too much work to get in and out. I used it as an excuse to remove the rear seats and belts and put in roll bar and harness.
If the car is a DD, don't forget that the GT3 seats are also a PITA to be getting in and out of several times a day.
Is it doable? Yes. Is it a hassle? Yes. Worth it? For a DD with kids riding frequently in the back, IMHO, no. If you have another DD, frequently track the P car, then, yes.
you can not be serious!?!
Is anybody thinking about the inevitable ??? a car accident!! remember you don't have to cause it!! I see an accident every day here on beach blvd..which has traffic lights about every 300 yards, so speeding is difficult....now have your kid in the back with fixed seats.....car gets hit.....how are you getting your kid out????
I understand the thrill, but once you got kids you got to be responsible...so put regular seats in for the time being....just my 2 cents
sorry.....just became a dad a year ago and have another one on the way......kind of protective and think in a completely different way about stupid things like safety, drawers, chemicals etc......this coming from a guy who used to jump out of airplanes, and did many many other stupid things! still speed!! without kids in the car....and have a big life insurance policy just in case
Good point guys...gotta chew on that one....I suppose in an accident the folding seat could trap the kids too...don't know if they test that...but if getting someone out in a hurry was key (fire..), your point is well taken. Thanks.
I don't want to fall down the DE slope too far to lose site of reality. It is just a car.

I'm in the same boat and for now it works great with only one race seat. Problem is that I have a set of special order metropol blue GT3 seats coming. I was also looking at the recaro CS but it doesn't have an opening for 5th-6th points...... I'm still on the fence.
yes your right about the folding seats.....but changes are that they don't get locked and when they do...the seats are much smaller and it is easier to reach in the back.
The problem is that there are so many huge SUV's ( got one myself) and other trucks around and the drivers (especially here in California) are doing everything BUT paying attention to the road!!
