Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Was planning on changing the fuel filter at 30,000 miles. The shop was unable to locate one from their suppliers, and after calling porsche, was informed that 2002 996 do NOT have fuel filters. Can this be true? Thanks, Jeff

POST 2Original post

Yes, as of MY02 for both the Carrera and Boxster.

POST 3Original post

Fuel filter is with the pump within the fuel tank.

POST 4Original post

So there is a filter, it just never needs to be changed? Or is there a way to change it still?

POST 5Original post

Does not need to be changed as a maintenance item.

POST 6Original post

There has to be some type of pick up screen in the gas tank, but Porsche does not call for it to be serviced. The normal filter under the car went away in 2002 when Porsche switch to a returnless fuel system. 1999-2001 the filter was supposed to be replaced at 60,000 miles by the way.

POST 7Original post

The fuel filter/ pump unit should last about 100k. If you choose to, replacing the unit at the 90k service interval would be a good preventative measure. The part number for the pump from '02 - on is 996.620.132.00. The previous pump -'01 is 996.620.102.00. 996.620.132.00 goes for about $260.
