Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

I've been looking at used Boxster/Caymans recently and the strategy of dealers seems to be to ask for $7-10K over market value as a starting point.
Leading evidence: 'Use boxster/caymans recently and the strategy of dealers seems' (no explicit attributable resolution; this is a reported action or suggestion). Across 1 matching discussions, the most frequently mentioned possible cause is 'place you will get the most exposure' (1 discussions; 0 report identifying it and 1 suggest it). The most frequently discussed action is 'Check ebay' (1 discussions). For that action, 0 discussions report a resolution and 0 report an unsuccessful attempt. No action has an explicit, attributable resolution report under the current rules. These are forum reports and suggestions, not a confirmed diagnosis.

Suspected cause
eBay is probably the place you will get the most exposure but the lowest price.

Suggestion
I must agree that in today's market a top shelf "Clean" car will not go for more the Mid 20's.

Suggestion
Replacing the bland stock wheels on a base Silver with nice spoke 18" wheels really make a visual impact and will increase the value.
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

+1 Regardless of how dealers like to claim (obviously they do this to try to preserve their pricing) Edmunds is "low", plain fact is, they take registration information (which includes price paid per locale) into consideration in their numbers. Of course, when dealers price your trade-in, the Edmunds numbers all-of-a-sudden, either become "too high" or "just right"...
Having said that, there will be obvious "outliers" in any statistic.
What options? Clear history? Service records? Color?
"Fair" is what you are willing to pay in relation to what the seller is willing to take. If recent statistics are any indication, this car would probably go for around $12-15K at auction, and around $20-25K retail. Of course, it could go for more or less depending on vehicle specific info.

Does the car you're looking at happen to reside in Las Vegas?
there is a dealer here with a silver 99 C2 cab with 12K miles on it.
They are asking 39K, waaaay to much.
Let me know and I can look at it for you and take photos as well if it is the same car.
I must agree that in today's market a top shelf "Clean" car will not go for more the Mid 20's. We picked up a nice coupe example 2 years ago for mid 20's right in the MA area. Now it is a full track car
Take your time... Look around talk with Friends and you will find the perfect Car.
At the end of the day it will come down to what you are happy with, How much you are willing to pay for transport, and a GOOD PPI. At $15K a car in LA still needs to get shipped across the country and/or you board a jet to drive it home. Why not give Eurpoean Locators a call (Dave Maynard) he is located just outside of Boston and can help you locate a nice example our direct you toward someone whom might.
I've been looking at used Boxster/Caymans recently and the strategy of dealers seems to be to ask for $7-10K over market value as a starting point.
Thye must feel that they amximaize the final selling price that way.
Gerry keep in mind that you are dealing with Langan and with sales slipping after they lost a "top notch" salesman... how else will they cover the gap.
Base 996 with 12K = $18-20k if you want to sell it soon. I've been in the market watching it closely for 12 months. It has been interesting watching the prices change and see where cars are being sold and for what prices. The same cars being listed on eBay over and over. Problem is most people do not have the cash and banks don't want to loan money on a 10 year old car in this economy. eBay is probably the place you will get the most exposure but the lowest price. Craigslist or Cars.com seems to get slightly higher prices. Many people are backed into a corner- want/need to sell their car, but are upside down based on what they owe the bank.
Hints to sell- Get really nice pics of the car. If you are not good at this- find someone who is. This is so overlooked. Make sure it is well lit, in focus and nice background. Later in the day, the sun can be more pleasing. Don't use your phone camera. Get car detailed. Fix the car now. Usually it is cheaper for you to do it now, rather than the prespective owner knocking down your price to replace worn tires or fix power window. Try Craigslist or Cars.com first. Monitor the prices cars are being sold in ebay. (there is a tab to view closed auctions) Many ebay auctions are sold offline after an item doesn't meet reserve. Contact seller to see what price car sold for.
Also certain color combinations and options really increase the interest and sales price. Replacing the bland stock wheels on a base Silver with nice spoke 18" wheels really make a visual impact and will increase the value. Wheel prices continue to drop- check eBay.
Good luck with your sale- and be patient
Geeze after reading this thread I realized my so call "daily beater" really is a beater. At close to 100k miles, it is probably in the $10k range. Neighbor's Hundai is worth more LOL!
I would think a one owner Cab with only 12k miles would go for $25k or so. Certainly I can imagine an asking price of around $29k. If you could get it for $20-22k I would do it! That sounds cheap to me.
Your neighbor would probably love to do an even swap of cars.
The car market is swamped with cars. I think this is a main reason so called values are low. Sadly most of the cars are just the like the trabi's and others that swamped the autobahn after the wall came down. They are nothing but junk on wheels eating a large portion of our roadways compairing them to Porsche's and other german cars.
+1. It is a Cab not a Coupe, and it has low miles with one owner. Again it is funny how some people chime in that have no experience in a 99 and give low numbers, like teens. Please maybe for high mileage coupe with many owners, many RMS's and many engines. I owned a low mileage, one owner, original engine, original RMS 99 Cab and sold it recently for the mid 20Ks and it sold fast. Quality will get the price.
To add to Orient Express, here are recent transactions, AT AUCTION, for 1999 911 Cabriolets. Keep in mind this tells you nothing about condition of the vehicle. Those saying a clean 12k mile car is only worth $12-15k I don't know what you're basing your opinion on. If it's a nice clean car, the car would do high teens no problem at an auction, could even touch twenty grand. Then factor in buyer's fees, transport, and any money the car may need in the shop. To buy the car in the low to mid 20's would certainly be fair to all involved.

I'd have to wonder about a car that averages 1,200 miles per year. Then tires have a 6 year max life which I don't think I'd trust performance tires past 2. Actually coming back from 6 months away many times I find hairline cracks. So I'd figure bushings and tires not being exercised would lower the price since they crack from non use. Then what real services have been performed for a car just sitting. It would have to be one heck of a climate controlled storage area for the temps and humidity to not mess things around. Sure spray on stuff can make hoses look great but.... Anyway a 12,000 mile car sure looks good in numbers but man there could be some problems since none of the real life cycle stuff isn't covered under warrenty anymore. Yikes!
I'd buy it just for the excitement hehehe
