Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

Leading evidence: 'Install recently' (no explicit attributable resolution; this is a reported action or suggestion). Across 1 matching discussions, The most frequently discussed action is 'Install recently' (1 discussions). For that action, 0 discussions report a resolution and 0 report an unsuccessful attempt. No action has an explicit, attributable resolution report under the current rules. These are forum reports and suggestions, not a confirmed diagnosis.

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

So I'm trying to figure out why my new Optima is drained and I notice that if I open and close the door w/ the keys out, the interior lights (dome and doors) stay lit for about 30 seconds and go out. But if I turn off the ignition, get out of the car close the door, and then pull the keys out; the interior lights stay on. They've been on for about 1 hour 45 minutes so far and still going and going and going. Is that normal? Is there some reason for the interior lights stay on other than to increase battery sales?
Are you talking about the amber "courtesy" or orientation lights? They will turn off when the car is locked. If the car remains unlocked, they will stay illuminated for 2 to 2-1/4 hours, which is normal.
I'm not talking about the amber LED orientation lights. The LED stayed lit but the power drain is inconsequential. No, I'm talking about the incandescent light bulbs in the overhead reading lights, and the clear/red lights in the door (to warn rear approaching cars the door is open). Basically all the interior lights stayed on for about 2 hours. Is 2 hours with all the interior lights on enought of a current drain to kill the battery?
The dome lights should turn off in less than a minute, probably more like 30 seconds. Did you change/add some electrical components recently? Not sure if those lights would would kill a battery or not.
Nothing installed recently. I have SmartTOP and RemoteTOP installed, and a V1 hardwired to a switched circuit in the center console. The rest of the electrical system is stock. I installed those about a year ago and I only recently noticed the interior lights remaining lit so I can't infer anything.
This may happen if the any of the contact switch is still closed. It can be the hood, glove box, center console, etc. not closed properly. You can verify this by locking the car by pressing the remote. If any one of those is not closed properly, the horn will sound.
I'm trying to understand why you'd open and close the door first,
then
pull out the key. In any case, the interior lights will go out as soon as you arm the car.
I often leave the top or windows down while in my garage. It's easier to climb out of the car first, shut the door, then pull the key and stick it in my jeans pocket. Sometimes I want to check the odo or battery level so I just reach in and turn on the power and then turn it off without opening the door.
Second that. If I turn off the car and remain sitting in it, the lights will stay on for longer than I've timed. However, if I turn off the car, and then open and close the door, the lights turn off within about 5-10 seconds. Locking the doors turns them off immediately.
