Read evidence and context
Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

I eventually installed a stand-alone sensor to be sure.
Leading evidence: 'Install stand-alone sensor' (no explicit attributable resolution; this is a reported action or suggestion). Across 1 matching discussions, The most frequently discussed action is 'Clean super easy' (1 discussions). For that action, 0 discussions report a resolution and 0 report an unsuccessful attempt. No action has an explicit, attributable resolution report under the current rules. These are forum reports and suggestions, not a confirmed diagnosis.

Suggestion
Do a search on radiator cleaning, super easy to pull the bumper and clean it out.

Suggestion
The coolant may be hot (I've seen it (using OBD data collection device) climb to 226 degs.
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

Hey guys, heres the pics of the 00 C2-ROW I got 2 weeks ago. 37k, no service records. Strereo was changed to a denon head unit. Rides great and strong. No leaks (yet). But do get high temp when in heavy traffic. I trolled the forums before purchasing and said to myself, f*** the IMS. lol. (hope it doesnt blow up on me hehehe) ill probably get the LN retrofit next year for a little peace of mind. I hope I got the image resize right.
Image still not working. But congrats on the car! "high temp" in heavy traffic.
By what are you basing this observation upon? The in-dash temp gage needle can move around quite a bit and will in warm weather and heavy/stop and go traffic. I've seen in one of my Porsches (Boxster) the needle climb nearly 4 needle widths above the "180" hash mark (which is just a mark on the gage face and probably means the coolant is warm but not 180 degs. F).
I've operated my Porsches in real high ambient temperatures (100F and hotter) and have never seen the coolant/overheated light flash. As long as the warning light not on (and assuming the bulb not burned out!) and of course there are no other signs of engine overheating the car is not overheating. The coolant may be hot (I've seen it (using OBD data collection device) climb to 226 degs. F. and stay there for miles and miles when driving at high speed on a real hot day) this is not cause for alarm. I asked dealer about this and dealer asked Porsche and Porsche said as long as warning light not on there's no overheating problem. IOWs, the in-dash temp gage is there for "show".
Since car new to you, be sure coolant cap doesn't leak. Be sure coolant tank shows level between min/max. The level will be "down" when engine cold and "up" when engine hot. Also, be sure vent valve on top of tank not open or leaking.
And I hope coolant has right blend of fresh anti-freeze and water (distilled water I prefer and IIRC is called for).
The coolant system wants to hold pressure which keeps the risk of the coolant flashing to steam at the hottest engine locations down which lowers the risk of any overheating.
Lastly, be sure radiator air ducts are clear of debris/trash and the radiator electric fans work. They should kick on when coolant temp climbs to 212 and cut off when it drops to 205. If coolant temp climbs to 216 or thereabouts fans should enter high speed mode. Also, fans should be on if A/C compressor on, the snowflake showing on A/C control panel display.
Sincerely,
Macster.
Is RL the best place in the world for info or what?
Awesome summation of things to check.
FWIW, my dash temp gauge never worked properly and always bounced around a lot. I eventually installed a stand-alone sensor to be sure.
If you plan to track it a lot, a 3rd center radiator would be a good idea and certainly worth the investment.
The 996 looks great, almost a twin to mine....
Now that's also quite a unique garage combo, just guessing is that a Pontiac Tempest cabrio in the background, maybe like a '63....?
Skylark I believe if not the first it was one of the first V6's and darn good one at that with lots of torque. I do kind of remember it as the first while we scoped it out. Friend was racing his 289 mustand around and was impressed with the little sky larks power when he had to drive his aunts while his engine was torn down in his garage for a better cam. But I still prefer the Porsche
Oh yah congradulations on finding the right car for starting a new year right. I kow I'll love going into the new year with a good old prosche to putt around in.
Welcome to Rennlist. You have two very nice cars there!
Are you in Manila? Yeah, unless I was in Baguio or Tagaytay I wouldn't get a sunroof either. With the heat, dust and pollution in Manila I'd want to keep all the windows rolled up and the AC cranking! ;-)
Happy New Year!
Welcome to Rennlist! Nice looking 996. Silver is my favorite color on a 996. I have only had mine a couple of months, but my temp gage normally stays two ticks above the 180 mark. Doesn't seem to matter what the temp is outside.
Great car! For me, RennList is the first place I check for help and as you can see there's no shortage of good advice. Congrats on your new car and welcome aboard!
