I would recommend looking for one locally, since shipping something like that can be very pricey due to size.

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

Hello all. Well, the deal went through after some more negotiations. Am now the proud owner of my second 911, a dark blue '99 Carrera Cabriolet with 8200 miles (sic), manual transmission, sport seats, perfect interior and body, clean engine and mechanicals. For those who are interested, paid $30500 plus gave up my Midnight Blue '91 964 Targa Tiptronic that had 49000 miles. Car didn't come with hardtop (not to say I like driving with the top up), was that an option?
I find it longer and wider than the 964, hadles better, and is way far quieter. In fact it sounds totally different, a higher pitch instead of the gutteral bruuooooom! Fuel efficiency is somewhat better than the 964, which was not that great. The reason I did it was that I wanted a manual, and the 964 leaked oil although it was in otherwise good condition. I also thought that other things may go wrong with a 13 year old car. It hurt to see it go however, although the loss was offset by the 996. I hope I enjoy the car as much the rest of you enjoy your cars.
Congrats!
Yes, all cabs come with the hardtop, but the dealer or buyer can opt to delete the hardtop and get $1800 or so off... Not sure where you are located, but if you want a H/T check ebay. I would recommend looking for one locally, since shipping something like that can be very pricey due to size. There are some in FLA for about $100...
Hey Darkvoltage....congrats on your Cab!
Narrow-bodies RULE, especially if they're Cabs!...
A hardtop is a good idea. It's so easy to put them on and take them off, and you'll get a longer life out of the soft top!
Congrats, I hope you enjoy crusing it. I do find the sound of the new cars a little too whimpy. Look on this forum to upgrade to a PSE GHL or Fabspeed exhaust it would make you feel like that old car. I really like the new 911 for daily drivers, but I do love the bulging fenders style of the old cars.
Thanks all.
I find the narrow body 996 wider than the 964 from the inside, and light-years more modern. However, I still feel cramped inside with the top up so I don't drive with it up if I can; this was the case with the Targa as well. So I'll forget about the hardtop for now unless I move to colder climes. I am getting used to the sound of the car, it's just another one of the many refinements that they made while modernizing; it is a very different car considering that the 993 & 964 are very similar.
Riad, I traded-in my 964, the price without the trade was about $48000. I thought this was about right for a car with low miles.
