Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

Anyway, I poured about a half can into the oil and ran the truck for aobutr 250 highway miles, then changed the oil.

My perception is that its mainly used on engines ~10+years old

I used Seafoam with INCREDIBLE results on both my previous 993's - search Seafoam and my name on the 993 side of the house.

Suggestion
I have used it to clean the top end of a sluggish engine; have used it to clean the oiling system on my 2002 Range Rover and also in the gas tank very ocassionally (I normally use Techron for the gas tank).

Suggestion
Seafoam does work as advertised...Look down your cylinder with a borescope...Then look again after you've run some Seafoam through the intake...amazing.
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

On top all that, the oil was VERY sludgy and oil changes did not help.
Prior to today I had never heard of Seafoam. I was recommended to use by some people on the VW/Audi forums as there are potential buildup problems on the 2.0T engines.
Is this something that I should consider on the Porsche?
I used Seafoam with INCREDIBLE results on both my previous 993's - search Seafoam and my name on the 993 side of the house. I have used it to clean the top end of a sluggish engine; have used it to clean the oiling system on my 2002 Range Rover and also in the gas tank very ocassionally (I normally use Techron for the gas tank). My 50K mile 4.6HSE Range Rover had what sounded like a stuck or clogged hydraulic lifter and it was only getting 13mpg best, in commuter traffic. The truck had been sitting for a very long time without running. On top all that, the oil was VERY sludgy and oil changes did not help. Anyway, I poured about a half can into the oil and ran the truck for aobutr 250 highway miles, then changed the oil. No more stuck lifter and the truck gets it's normal 15.6 - 16MPG during commuting traffic now and it runs great + the oil is nice and clear even after 2000 miles+ driving, weird huh. Caution: I have read horror stories about folks that either used too much in their crankcase or their car simply did not like having Seafoam in the oiling system!!! But using the intake vacum to 'pull' the Seafoam into your intake top end - let it sit for ten minutes - then drive - works fantastic. At least on aircooled Porsches.
I had never even considered using a cleaner treatment like Seafoam until my conversation about the Audi/VW 2.0T's. I just want to make sure I am keeping all cars in tip top shape.
For mild combustion chamber decarbonization, Chevron Techron Concencentrate/Fuel System Cleaner (NOT the Chevron Techron Fuel Injector Cleaner) is better.
This
is an interesting read that explains why.
For oil sludging issues, I would just change the oil more frequently until the sludging subsides.

Seafoam seems to have tremendous benefits for direct injected cars. with all the fuel being delivered directly to the cylinder, the top end tends to get gunked up.
The Mazda/VW/GM DI motors have all seen some issues with heavy buildup in the top end.
I heard this is true for DI Cayennes and it may ring true for ournew Cayman S & 997.2 friends
i have heard of this a few years ago, except it seemed like i read only horror stories. Mostly from someone who didn't know how to use it. I do see it in the parts stores now, so it seems to be pretty popular.
I am scared to use it b/c of all the horror stories, but i am sure i will try it on one of the older cars we have.
Seafoam does work as advertised...Look down your cylinder with a borescope...Then look again after you've run some Seafoam through the intake...amazing.
Even more so, run it thru your intake system for a burst of flavor...the stuff is amazing...
Like I said it woke up a couple of my 993's like night AND day...and the black 993 became down right scary. The tack would go from 0 to 7.5K in a heart
beat
- I think it was possessed. Luckily it went bye-bye or might have I...
