Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

Almost as if the engine was dedicated to running the compressor and the rest of the power allowed to go to the transmission

The Auto setting directs most of the air to the dash vents, with some to the windshield and a little to the footwell.

Suggestion
Unless you are fogging up you don't really need it on the windshield and using the manual setting at least doulbles the air to the footwell.

Coverage and how to read this overview
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.
25 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

No, that's the heater core still getting HOT coolant flow.
..in any car that I have owned. The older cars have such a reputation for poor heat & A/C that Porsche pulled out all the stops with the 996.
The blower motor is so strong - I could not be happier!
Funny, i noticed this too. It seems to hold the temperature way more even than other cars/SUVs/trucks I have had. Same for the heating system in the winter!
Mine works great too. The only issue I seem to have in my leg area gets a little warm with our 100 plus days. It seems like the Nav/Radio gives off some extra heat too.

Maybe it has to do with the Nipon Denso A/C?
I've noticed that too, in matter of fact the A/C is so cold I have to crack open the window a little so I don't freeze.
In matter of fact I just made a trip to Vegas in 110 weather and the A/C worked flawlessly.
I guess another reason we're driving 996s and not 993s.
I do love 993s, I do.
But of course it's such a small cockpit it cools off quick even with the big front and rear glass.....
MIne works great too - although yesterday while sitting at a light - it seemed to get a little muggy feeling - almost as if the a/c suddenly lost its charge. Got a little better while driving but not quite what it was before. I have to say that my 2002 Range Rover a/c is the best - lots of vents and lots of air. The 996 is pretty darn good - but the little spurt yesterday got me wondering. Maybe it's connected with the engine issue I had this morning - don;t know yet.
Ah - ha! The a/c works really great otherwise. Almost as if the engine was dedicated to running the compressor and the rest of the power allowed to go to the transmission
Which in effect - is true!
After sitting in the Houston sun all day, my cabin is cool within one minute. Really much better than I expected when I bought the car. The sun deflecter in the windshield and metallic tint do help as well.

No, that's the heater core still getting HOT coolant flow. You can prevent that, and improve your A/C efficiency quite substantially by purchasing a water shut-off valve at home Depot and installing it to block HOT water flow throughout the summer months.
During the winter, non-cooling period, I have a switch which allows me to open the compressor clutch circuit.
"...unless you are fogging up.."
The 996 and later Porsche's have a propensity for fogging up the windshield....
On the OUTSIDE....!!
Once the cabin temperature stabilizes at or very near your setpoint some of the cooling airflow will be diverted to the inside of the windshield. That can represent a problem in humid areas since the cooling airflow to the inside of the windshield can quite easily cool the OUTSIDE to the local dewpoint.
Not so much a problem in daylight but in the early evening or after dust it can go un-noticed for TOO LONG.
VW issued a fix for this with their version of the Cayenne but so far Porsche simply says it's operating as designed.
My practice is to ALWAYS disable the windshiedl airflow by manually turning it on and then back off.
Funny you mention this as today I was driving during lunch in the rain and saw fog forming on the outside of the window. I had to turn off the windshield fan to prevent it.
Mine fogs the outside as well. I don't mind, it reminds me of how cold the car is inside. I have to agree with the OP that my 996 has the best A/C I've experienced in a car.
To some extent I attribute it to the small cabin. But I also suspect that climate control was on Porsche's development list when they had the chance to redesign the 911.
Not what I expected, but certainly delightful. One more ting to love about the car.
