I'm sure you'll make sure they check the big stuff, but maybe also have them look at the wheel bearings and carriers, spin the wheel too, if bent that needs to be balanced.

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Tagged in a parking lot front drivers fender/wheel a car backing into me while I was driving by, screaming out the window and blowing the horn.... I watched with nothing to do but brace for the hit.... son of a freaking bastage !!! doesnt look bad, but I know better... new alignment "feels off" and the hood doesnt look like its sitting right, fender hits door, wheel has a "bumper mark" fender visually looks like nothing happened, just scratched from the hit, not dented or wrikled at all. do I get to swear.... pics later - though not much to see

POST 3Original post

Very sorry to hear. That REALLY sucks. I'm assuming the other guy's insurance will pay for repairs? Find the absolute best shop you can to do the work and accept nothing less.

POST 4Original post

Its an incredible feeling of helplessness - I've been there. Sorry to hear! Had a driver hit me while staring at my car and rolling at 5mph... totally f'n clueless folks out there. He got out of the car and told me I hit him... no damage at that speed but for a moment i thought I was on some reality show.

POST 5Original post

I had that happen to me in my 944 about three years ago. I was in a fast food restaurant parking lot in the drive-thru lane. Of course there is parking on either side while waiting. Some woman walks up to her car, gets in, and backs up. Mind you I hadn't moved the whole time. I'm slamming on the horn and screaming and she still hits me. She gets out and apologizes and tells me, "I didn't see you back there." Idiot... The cop came and looked at the damage, put on her police report $100 or something outrageously low. The final tally ended up being about $1100. People are really clueless out there! I think parking lots are some of the most dangerous places for both cars and people. Too many idiots not paying attention.

POST 6Original post

that blows!... sorry dude, some people just should not be given a drivers license...

POST 7Original post

That sucks! Sorry to hear that. Hope it can be restored 100% w/o issues.

POST 8Original post

one time i was sitting in my car, the other car hit me when trying to park to the spot next to me. and he think it's my fault because i parked to close to the white line. 2 weeks ago, almost got hit by a woman backing out, good thing i have tip so i just step on the gas, funny thing is everybody saw it and shocking head while the drive had no clue. sorry for u, it's crzay out there.

POST 10Original post

Wow, man. That's horrible. I'm sure it can be fixed... and I'm sure it'll look like new... but, damn, you're going to be out your car for a week or two! That's some reward for actually driving your car!

POST 11Original post

Send me their name and address, Ed. I know people... Seriously, there's absolutely nothing good about that story....sorry to hear that happened

POST 12Original post

Hey Ed, that REALLY sucks! I hate parking lots, everyone drives around like they've lost their minds. Back in '85 had a 3 month old Pontiac Trans Am driving down the aisle of a parking lot and a women shoots out of a spot and creams the side of the car. $3000.00 damage because she had likely floored it coming out of her parking spot and really smacked me. Really hope you have no problems to make her right! Pete

POST 13Original post

Bummer Ed. Take it to a good shop so everything gets blended properly.

POST 15Original post

been there, sorry to hear it Ed. I'm sure you'll make sure they check the big stuff, but maybe also have them look at the wheel bearings and carriers, spin the wheel too, if bent that needs to be balanced. I though my hood looked off to, but it was really just the crinkle in the fender that made everything look off. Obviously look at it. IF you do get a new hood, hey it comes with new paint, so saves you money down the road right? trying to find a bright side. And sorry to hear about the marks on the wheels, hopefully they buff out. Push for a new wheel, the MSRPs on new oem wheels are super high and can get you a little cushion.

POST 16 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Thanks guys! Well atrer she hit me she said "did I hit you? I thought I hit a curb" Insurance claim against her started, and I had a bit of a headache and sore neck so I went in to have the dr check. He thought I was a ok, gave me some pain pills? ( I will link the F/S ad here, hahahaha j/k) A better look at the car will have to be done, I am mainly concerned about how it drives and if I end up missing any days use at the cone avoidence challenge I just want it to be as dialed in as it was and the good news is I know exactly where the alignment was less than 2 weeks ago. Any issues there should have a number that tells exactly how much it moved if any. Thanks for the warm wishes, sure sucks today, hope it gets better.

POST 17Original post

Sorry to learn of your little run-in. I hate parking lots. Out here in suburban cowboy land it seems that all the "real men" drive dually pickups and theirs S/Os drive Escalades. The one thing that I noticed is that the top of my car is lower than their tailgates. When I'm in a parking lot, I try to pay special attention to those white backup lights. I figure that half of them ain't gonna look, and the half that do will never see me anyway. So far, I've been lucky...but I have this feeling that my time's about up. Hope you get your ride sorted out to your liking.

POST 18Original post

Ed, you just hit my worst nightmare. Don nailed it - be paranoid about reversing lights. The parking lot at my gym is a total nightmare - cars coming in at high speed with people talking on the phone and people reversing out without paying attention. I've almost been hit several times. Clueless idiots.

POST 19Original post

Aaargh, Ed. That sucks. Sorry to hear the bad news. Best of luck on getting that baby back to mint!

POST 20Original post

Bummer man - it will be fine in a jiff. Almost as bad as parking at the Metro here. I think people beat the crap out of cars for the heck of it. Someday I'll take a few days off and park the car and set up a deer camera and see what's really going on.

POST 21Original post

Quotes source post: 6676891

Exactly. Unfortunately. That's a drag, hope she comes back good as new. I'm sure the insurance company doesn't want to do anything....

POST 22Original post

Aw, Man! Sorry to hear that - yeah, i think everyone would understand, maybe even encourage you, to swear... Hopefully it won't be laid up too long and that you get everything you're entitled to... GL! Rudy

POST 23 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

so here is the "not so bad looking" bump - and no, those are thru the paint.... no buff out. The fender is a no brainer, its "what else" that has be wondering. Check out the hood on the passenger side - dat not good again guys Thanks for the warm wishes!!

POST 25Original post

sorry to hear. sucks big time... hope the ins co does the right thing and not quibble over having car repaired correctly by a quality shop. i had a similar situation occur with my wife's bimmer by a NYS gov vehicle few years back and was very surprised by how smooth the whole process was. prob cost $4k and they or their insurer just ponied up. good luck.

POST 26Original post

Sooooooooo sorry.. Good luck with your repairs

POST 27Original post

It will be just fine and better than new - just a hassle that's all I'm more concerned about these 996 engine issues - disappointed with 'Porsche design' for once...

POST 28Original post

Yikes... sorry to hear it. I'm sure it will be as good as new before too long...

POST 29Original post

As others have said...be sure your shop checks for hidden damage in addition to the obvious panel damage.GL Ed

POST 30Original post

I'm sorry to hear about your bad day Ed. Take it to the best Porsche body repair specialist you can. As stated previously, make sure they do a thorough check for any unseen damage underneath as those panels don't look correctly aligned now. Reading this couldn't come at a worse time as it's the first time I drove my car to work in the last few weeks. Doh! I'm tempted to just skip lunch now. Hopefully, she'll be as good as new.

POST 31Original post

Quotes source post: 6677677

Hmmm, should we bring up engine failure in EVERY thread? Maybe there's another thread for this??? Let's see... somewhere on Rennlist.... I think I saw something.... Sorry about the accident Ed. Hopefully you have no suspension damage. It can be very difficult to get it fixed i have found.

POST 32Original post

I bet you'll be pushing $5k when it's all done, but the other guy's insurance should pay for all of it - you may have to subregate to get your deductible back. Just make sure you take it to a specialist and it gets returned to perfect.

POST 34Original post

Think of it as an opportunity to get rid of any stone chips! same thing happened to me on an 88 851 years ago, dopey kid just backed right into my front left fender. So I get it fixed get the entire nose freshened up at the body shop than drop the car at my mechanic for some repairs and one of his guys closes the freshened hood on a tool... crunch! back to the body shop!

POST 35Original post

Quotes source post: 6677937

True. You can also talk to the shop about any additional body work as well. Most body shops when doing insurance work will fix other minor things at the same time because they get top dollar from the insurance company.

POST 36 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

like adding a wing? I sent off an email to my alignment guy this am. He is the guru on these things and knows my car. I will see what he suggests. ya, since the front was bumped at the track a few months back and I have a "curb" scrape on the lower lip + rock chips... I am viewing it as a "freshen up" the front positive spin on negative circumstance

POST 37Original post

Sorry to hear of the accident, Ed. Hope you get it fixed to your satisfaction.

POST 38 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

I found a new mod I am thinking about

POST 39Original post

Ed, I think that accident you had shook a few screws loose in your head. But, I actually like the train horn, especially the one in the second video that changes pitch. Nice!!

POST 40Original post

Ed, Most of the ding dongs are so clueless I don't think that the train horn would work either. She would probably get out of the car and say "I thought I heard a train in the distance, but I didn't see you back there. u sure I didn't hit a curb?" Sorry to hear about this. Hope you gave her an earful.

POST 41Original post

be glad you were in the car when it happened....you could have gotten back and only noticed it coming home! female drivers NO survivors ...... WTF her saying I thought is was a curb?!?!?!?! I have never seen big black curbs with sexy shapes, windows, doors and wheels!

POST 42 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

so this is like the most subtle "accident" you could have and yet yesterday going home, I opened the sunroof (pop up) and it rattled to the point that I had to close it because it was driving me NUTS.... now that has never happened before, but I cant see how this could be connected. Thoughts? coincidence or related am I suffering from a loose nut in the noodle like Phil thinks

POST 44 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

ya think that'll upset the aerodynamics

POST 46Original post

Damn, hope it works out Ed! Same thing almost happened to me last week in a Starbucks parking lot! I was stopped waiting for a space when a yahoo in a Town Car started backing right into my right side. I hit the horn, and the gas, and luckily he stopped within inches of my rear fender! My car's minty life passed before my eyes, but disaster was avoided. Sorry you weren't as lucky.

POST 47 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

yea, the question is in my head.... could I have moved and avoided it, and if I moved would she have hit me in a worse/better spot... it seems to me there was a car in front of me (which was why I was stopped) but I dont recall if it moved while I was watching this happen. Then I think, well I could have moved ahead and had her *** drag all the way down the side of the car... so I surely have been tossing about the options and reactions in my head. Still, not a bad accident so I dont want to blow it all out of whack

body shop quoted $2400 - insurance quoted $2200, check written, parts ordered, waiting for the call to take it in..... should I stick on my GT2 Yellow Hood ?? (and have them paint it at the same time) my hood has issues (which is why I have the GT2 hood in the garage to begin with) OH SHUT UP !!!

POST 50Original post

Yup after the anonymous Owwie I got in our work parking lot I ended up with new front and rear bumper covers and side rocker panels... There are silver linings and there are silver linings... Rudy

POST 51 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

your silver linings look hot as hell on that beast !!

POST 52Original post

Quotes source post: 6710044

Thanks! But I gotta say, even so, I was a little intimidated by the two 997 C2S jocks I drove with to the Irvine C&C... In my case, insurance kicked in something like $1200 and I ponied up about $2200... my reasoning was - I could go with the stock bumper and only pay the $300 deductible, or I could cough up some more money and end up with the front bumper I really wanted... which turned into a whole body kit, minus the wing (next year...) After all was said and done, insurance subsidized about a third of the facelift... enough of a silver lining for me! Good luck and I hope you find a silver lining with yours! Rudy

POST 53 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

dont let those 997 boys and their watches push you around......

That is a Brilliant idea!!! I've seen a Dodge Ram Rumble Bee in Black and Yellow!

POST 58 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Car went in this morning - I am asking for a quote to paint my yellow hood and install, and clean up the road rash out front... meanwhile I have a 300M to drive..... I think a ford focus would be better - this thing is crap, isnt it supposed to be Chryslers top car? cheap cheap cheap materials and consturction, way out dated technology, fair drivability, crap seats and instruments, clunky controls, and a beautiful shiny silver painted dash that when the sun hit it this morning was like 10 mirrors reflecting all the sun right into my eyes... a real treat to drive while nearly being blinded by the light... not only that but I felt like I should be leaning way back and off to one side..... wierd - the controls (like blinker) and WAY down on the bottom of the wheel so you dont have to work hard and reach WAY up from your sleeping / McDonalds eating position....Nice cup holders though....they actually block the entire shift console so you dont have to look at those things... ewe, shifty things....I think my kids found a pop up tray to set drive thru bags on....yummy, lunch alla Bently wanna be gheto machine My guess is a Kia would have better fit/form and function maybe materials too Wonder what the GT2 rear wing would like like on it? ......BAWAHAHAHAHA

POST 59Original post

A few months ago I had to do a job in Boston and I was given one of those as a rental car. I had the same impression of it as well. Oh and what about the visibility (or lack of) from the driver's seat? Needless to say when I see that people actually purchased one of these things and put $5k worth of bling on it, I wonder what they were thinking??? Now maybe if I had tried the Hemi version I could live with all of these shortcomings, but that weak V6 didn't have enough power to move that car effectively.
