Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

Leading evidence: 'Replace battery and have no cel' (no explicit attributable resolution; this is a reported action or suggestion). Across 1 matching discussions, The most frequently discussed action is 'Check a/c has plenty of refrigerant' (1 discussions). For that action, 0 discussions report a resolution and 0 report an unsuccessful attempt. No action has an explicit, attributable resolution report under the current rules. These are forum reports and suggestions, not a confirmed diagnosis.

While "Dick" was working on the body, I pulled the mufflers and did an exhaust mod, replaced the plugs and checked out the coils.

Ran a tank or two of gas with Techron then change oil/filter.

Now, where should my Indie start.....I'm thinking, first fill it up with gas, check codes, water drains,.....what would you do?
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

Okay, so I bought a salvage '03 C4S out of Ca., and put it into a body shop in Ia. It is now pretty much done, and I am going to bring (hauled) it up to an Indie here in St. Paul. What would you have him check? I'm more than a little concerned, when the car arrived in Iowa, it was not the car I would have bought if I had seen it before. Oh well. The rear tires were bald, the car had been stripped of most everything including the gas cap? (although everything inside is all there)
In my initial enthusiasm, I bought some 20" with new tires off a TT on Ebay....yeah, Dubs!!
While "Dick" was working on the body, I pulled the mufflers and did an exhaust mod, replaced the plugs and checked out the coils. I hooked up the a new radiator and suctioned in new antifreeze....no leaks in the cooling system. I replaced the battery and have no CEL.
Fuel was (is) down to nothing..... and the car has sat now for a year. Now, where should my Indie start.....I'm thinking, first fill it up with gas, check codes, water drains,.....what would you do? in what order?
Thanx
So, while I was waiting, I was reflecting on teaching my new girlfriend how to shift my BMW. I don't know what went wrong.........I told her gently, yet firmly grab the shift just below the "head" of the gearshift ****, to intently, again firmly, to pull it into the next gear. While she did this, I would concurrently thrust in the clutch and gently allow it to engage the transmission............which would all happen in one fluid moment.............with the oneness one could feel with doing something, um,...... natural. The synergry of a nicely coupled shift could bring joy and satisfaction rarely felt in many day to day activities. She took me directly to her condo....and we never got back to the lesson. Where did I go wrong?
Drain oil and change filter.
Remove plugs and squirt some oil in each cylinder and then remove fuel pump fuse and crank engine by hand to ensure engine turns over with ease.
Turn it over by hand a couple of complete revolutions.
If all is well, then crank it starter motor a moment giving starter time to cool down between several of these sessions.
Replace plugs with new ones.
Replace fuel pump fuse.
Dump in 5 gallons premium gas treated with Swepco gas treatment or Techron according to instructions.
Turn on key and ensure all warning lights come on. Lights for oil pressure, coolant, etc.
Then fire up engine.
Ensure all dash lights go out immediately and don't come on.
Let engine idle if it will for several minutes.
Before you drive car have brakes and lights inspected to ensure car roadworthy.
Be sure transmission/differential have fluid and the right kind. Might be worth it to just change the stuff so you know. Ditto brake fluid. Flush and bleed with new/fresh fluid. If manual don't forget clutch slave cylinder.
Gently test brakes to be sure they work before you take car up to speed or drive through school zone.
Ran a tank or two of gas with Techron then change oil/filter.
Keep sharp eye out for leaks. Sitting that long unused could have the engine or something else leaking from a dried seal.
Check A/C has plenty of refrigerant. If unused for long time seals dry and stuff leaks out. If low or empty have system purged, recharged with refrigerant and oil and dye and checked for leaks.
Fill up wiper fluid tank and check wipers/washers work.
Really you have to check and recheck every system and subsystem cause you don't know why it was parked.
Oh, and I'll take over teaching your GF how to drive a stick while you work on car.
Sincerely,
Macster.
Hey thanks Macster....Lemme get this straight....put the lime in the coconut, put 'em both together, put the lime in coconut and drink them both up? I'll call you in the morning.....really, thanks for the advice and taking the time.
Gotta go
I have no idea what to tell ya -- except Good Luck!
Hope it all comes together for you within your budget. And is it too late to return those 20" wheels?
yeah, the jury is still out on the 20's. I guess it all goes back to seeing some "dubs" at a dealer's car here, looked kind of cool....and the Ebay tires/wheel were $900. Of course I needed rear tires and well.....Car looks kind of okay with them on, seems to sit a little high, a little ghetto, but it is hard to tell right now as it is sitting in grass
We'll see, I have the 18" and just need tires for them. I'm more than a little concerned about the (very) thin sidewall on the "dubs" Roads here are, um, they could use some attention? OMFG is more appropriate. Anyway, thanks everyone, pics are coming next week....doing the bicycle ride across Iowa this week. Then follow the "plan".
I like how everyone is always telling everyone to go bigger and bigger with the wheels until they hit 20", then they say it's silly. Give me a set of lightweight 17s any day over these pointless monster rims...
...how about 24" rims with a solid , 3/4" piece of rubber glued to it - wow. I imagine braking and cornering would be pretty good. And optional backwards rotating center caps...
