And perhaps the OP needs back seats (like I do), in which case a 996 can be a great dual-use street/DE car...
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

lol, you are talking about MY OLD CAR! Perfect for street, and smokin' on the track. It had a new engine with warranty, Ruf Aerokit, and was dialed in like nobody's business. Not a garage queen, but a mean machine that could handle double duty.
You're about 10 days too slow - it was snatched up in a heartbeat.

If you're going to track a lot, GT3 may actually be cheaper to maintain, need fewer upgrades, etc.
Re the engine rebuilds, lots of track junkies with GT3's and not many rebuilds (none that I can think of and I know lots of people who track very regularly). Robustness of 996 motor for serious tracking is more of a crap shoot IMO.
Lots of good GT3's available at very reasonable prices now, and they'll likely hold their value better.
GT3's are wonderful, but they ARE more expensive to buy & insure. And perhaps the OP needs back seats (like I do), in which case a 996 can be a great dual-use street/DE car... and probably easier to drive for a beg or intermediate DE driver than a GT3 would be. Ultimately, all else being equal the 996 will be a couple/few seconds slower per lap than the GT3. If the OP just wants to have fun and learn at DE's, then who cares? I have a ball in my 996 at the track and enjoy having the extra $20k in the bank that a GT3 would have cost me. And as a bonus I have back seats for my kid to ride in on the street.
RealRide: GL with your search. I have exactly the car you are looking for in my garage, but you can't have it!!
I think the price delta to move to a GT3 is more than $20k for most right now. I'm looking to do the same, in fact that's why my 996 is for sale, and it does sound exactly like what you're looking for. I've had second thoughts though, it is a remarkably good car. Some have had engine failures, which is why my car has a re-man'd engine!
