I just replaced a nearly new top ( 9 years garaged), but the window glue was aged so it had a small leak at the corner.

And, I am looking to replace the entire top and other damage they did to my car, ie exterior paint scratches, interior electric damage, water damage to the interior, etc.

I kept my original top and the shop said they can replace the plastic window for about $200.
These are separate views of the same evidence. Frequency alone does not establish a fix, and these counts must not be added together.

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

Well, unfortunately, it leaks so I need to get it fixed.
If anyone has had a new plastic window for a 99-01 996 Cab stitched into their convertible top, would you please post close up pics of the stitching? You can PM me the pics instead if you like. Close ups like the ones in the attached pic would help. Thanks.
looks pretty ****ty...but that what you get when you don't use the right people...when I purchased mine...the plastic was yellow and was replaced by the "dealer" looks a little better than the job done on your cab...but not by much.
Best thing to do is to forgetaboutit and try not to let it bother you....or get a new top.
Happy New Year
Who did that stitching?
Getting just the plastic window replaced is difficult to be done properly since they are burned in. Is that what you are looking to replace or the entire top?
my996a,
If even after a replacement window you still have a leak, most likely it can't be sufficiently fixed.
The problem with these windows is that the old window is cut out and the new window is stitched in over the old. It is not the most ideal way to fix it but unfortunately looks to be the only way to repair.
Like previously mentioned, the stitching looks pretty bad. Not sure what you have in mind by looking at what a proper stitch should look like (I imagine you already know what it is supposed to look like). Even if the shop that did it removes the old stitching and makes a new a straight one, you will now have holes where the old stitch was.
One thing to consider is a new top. I know is drastic but you don't really have too many options to 1) not have it leak and 2) still look good.
I went throught the same thing on my 01 Cab as you just a few months ago.
- Stitched in a new window.
- Leaked at top window.
- Shop chalked in silicone around the window. Looked like a crappy fish tank.
- Still leaked at top of window. And still looked like a crappy fish tank.
- Ended up replacing the top with a GHH top with glass window.
8 trips to the shop and a few bucks later, all is good again.
Best of luck.
I just replaced a nearly new top ( 9 years garaged), but the window glue was aged so it had a small leak at the corner. Ebay came thru again. German Auto tops ( in Hollywood, CA). John gave me a great deal of info prior to purchasing. German A5 material. He's said he's been making tops for 23 yrs. The quality was awesome and the shop that did the install here in Miami, FL purchases from him direct. they've been in business at the same address for 45 yrs, so I expected great work and they came thru. Two days and a total of $1100 later, I have a new top that looks as good as the car. I kept my original top and the shop said they can replace the plastic window for about $200. my .02
I guess I was not clear. I bought a new top and window OEM from Porsche. The shop that installed it F'ed it up as you can see. I am out nearly $4000 on just the top. I need the pics to include as exhibits in a complaint because the shop refuses to take responsibility.
I would publish the shops name but for now I want to avoid any libel statements although I can say its located in Pontiac Michigan so avoid a shop there that advertises on the net as the best in town!
So, if any of you have some pics of what good stitching should look like, it would help me greatly. And, I am looking to replace the entire top and other damage they did to my car, ie exterior paint scratches, interior electric damage, water damage to the interior, etc. etc. thanks
ok, now you made it much clear(er). most members here beat you down for showing those horrible pics. but since you paid dearly for parts and got taken for the install, I'd be glad to email you close-up pics of the stitching on my current top. you can pm me your email, if possible. thanks.
I am trying to PM you right now but cannot find the PM part. Where is it on your profile?
Just figured it out - I can't send you any PM's until you have made a few more posts.
Anyway, my Email address is

Sorry for the low-quality iPhone pic. Just wanted to take a quick one for you. Also, don't mind the dirty plastic -- I haven't washed the car yet since temps have been in the teens the past couple of days.
