Read evidence and context

Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

I notice that in several pics that 996 owners have switched out the orange (amber) side markers for clear ones. I realize that in some colors, the orange may look tacky but I kind of like it against a black exterior. Is there any other reason to change them out?

POST 2Original post

The clear ones are european side markers. People here in the states tend to change them out for aesthetic reasons. The bulb in the clear ones is amber. Amber markers work better for some colors than others. People with Silver, red, yellow or blue cars tend to like clear markers. black, green, and white cars seem to favor amber markers.

POST 3Original post

The US spec for side markers is red rear and amber front. So they come here amber. But on the new cars, there isnt any other amber lenses on the car. Only those front side markers. So if you go clear with them, the whole car has clear lenses except for the rear red brakes. Even better is to change the amber bulbs to 'clear or chromed' bulbs. Then they dont show thru the clear lenses as yellow. It all looks really clear. The bulbs light up yellow or amber. You can find them on ebay, or at prostreetlighting.com in Cal.

POST 4Original post

I changed mine to clear and also made them flash with the turn signals. I think the clear markers look good on Seal Gray.
