Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

5 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

I will be at the dealer tomorrow: Part Number : 996100995 DX So much for trust.

POST 2Original post

Brutal...you got a rebuilt engine in the end.....what are you going to do?

POST 3Original post

Good luck with your 'new' rebuilt motor. That is why I asked for the part number. You have a rebuilt. You are told what you want to hear, to make you, a happy customer, happy while you drink their coffee. And most owners have no clue, or do not care. Good you got the part number. Then they will blame Germany, like there are no new engines in North America. Or , I should say Atllanta.

POST 4Original post

I would definitely have a few words with them about telling you one thing and doing another. I think most dealers think we are all knuckleheads and dont have any communication with other p-ca nuts.. Not that it will change anything, but remind them of your upcoming GT3 order

POST 5Original post

I wish I had a source with PAG to find out if they are still even making new 986/996 engines. My local Boxster 2000 2.7 Boxster friend Jean had 4 seal replacements, and the 4th seal leaked. Porsche oked a rebuilt engine, which had a vibration problem after it was put in. Then another rebuilt was put in with the same problem. So the service advisor told Jean the 3rd replacement engine would be a new one. Jean was called when the 3rd engine arrvied and he went to the dealer to check his car. The engine had already been put in, but the box it came in which now held his last rebuilt was near his car. The part number on the box was for a rebuilt. Jean confirmed with the mechanic the 3rd was rebuilt, then asked the service advisor why he got another rebuilt when he was told it was going to be new. Jean was told that Porsche no longer made a new 2.7 engine for a 5 speed manual and that is why he got another rebuilt. The 3rd rebuilt had the same problem, so a 4th engine was ordered. It came in last week and it is a new engine, but for a tiptronic. So they will have to modify the wiring so it will work with a manual transmission. It has been almost 3 months while all this has been going on. My specilation is that if your car is old you get a rebuilt unless there is special circumstances. But let's say your 4 month old car had a failed engine and Porsche told you you were going to get a rebuilt. You would not be a happy customer.
