I am trying to remove the lighter plug and replace with a non-smoker outlet plug.
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

Whats the best way to remove the front console (you know around the radio and AC). I am trying to remove the lighter plug and replace with a non-smoker outlet plug. I didn't want to break anything accidentally...

PULL!
It comes out easily - start at the passenger side lower section and gently ease it out, then work your way up and over the top and sides to get the rest out. Cover your shifter/handbrake area with a towel.
Or better still, leave it alone and live with the lighter.
Don't you just mean pulling the lighter socket off the horseshoe?
The horseshoe itself comes off pretty easily, and the switches pop off nicely just by pushing them in. The lighter however is another question. That looks a little bit of pain to do.
if you have full leather be very careful you don't dent the leather, It doesn't just pull out from the switch surround, it pushes out after bending down the two metal tabs. You will see once you have it off.
so I have no leather, its just plastic, I have removed all buttons but the lighter plug having no luck. Please explain in detail on how that comes out, looks like there is a light bulb assembly but did not want to force and breakit. Thanks.
Interested to see what this looks like when you're done. Please post a photo. I just replaced the lighter with one of those nice little machined stainless LED flashlights. . . Actually handy on occasion too . . .
to all out there,
I don't know how to remove the lighter plug from the trim surround. I have removed the trim piece and unplugged all switch connections, only one left is the lighter plug. looks like it has a light in it but I didn't want to force anything and breaK IT. anybody out there know how remove that?
