Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

Leading evidence: 'Install both)' (no explicit attributable resolution; this is a reported action or suggestion). Across 1 matching discussions, the most frequently mentioned possible cause is 'better street coilover, more comfortable (than x74)' (1 discussions; 0 report identifying it and 1 suggest it). The most frequently discussed action is 'Install both)' (1 discussions). For that action, 0 discussions report a resolution and 0 report an unsuccessful attempt. No action has an explicit, attributable resolution report under the current rules. These are forum reports and suggestions, not a confirmed diagnosis.

Today I installed a ROW M030 retrofit kit on my car.

Used GT3 coilovers are $600 - $1,000 depending on the occasion, condition and the parts you get.

I want to lower my car, upgrade the suspension to something closer to a GT3 feel and am curious as to the practical differences between these three set ups.
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

I want to lower my car, upgrade the suspension to something closer to a GT3 feel and am curious as to the practical differences between these three set ups.
Today I installed a ROW M030 retrofit kit on my car. I did tons of research before I did it. So I can say that this topic is talked to death here. If you search for PSS9 and X72 and toss in some other words to narrow your search will read about it all night long. The PSS10 are new but I think they just added another setting to the PSS9?
Good luck.
I have only driven a 996 w/PSS9's and x74 (never been in a PSS10 car).
X74
Pro's
- Porsche Coilover (made by Porsche). Not adjustable so all settings already made by Porsche.
- Transforms handling, very stiff and secure
- Very easy to install
- Probably a better track suspension than the PSS9 (good but there are even better options for the track than this set-up)
- Kit includes new sway bars and bushings
Con's
- Very stiff (I'm not kidding here, much stiffer than PSS9's)
- Not adjustable, no corner balancing, ride height or dampening adjustment
PSS9
Pro's
- Better handling than stock
- Fully adjustable (height, dampening)
- Probably a better street coilover, more comfortable (than x74)
Con's
- On the soft side for the track
- Aftermarket, more difficult to install (according to my mechanic, who has installed both)
- No new sways included
Full disclosure - I have driven both. I decided on the x74 for my car.
Yup, this has been posted ad-nauseum. Do a search using "suspension upgrades" and you'll be reading way into the next several days.
Ray's got a very nice, concise summary. You forgot to ask about the ROW 030. Lowers the car, not as much and not as stiff as the X74, and it's made by Porsche.
Which of the choices makes it's a GT3 feel? None, really. The GT3 is the GT3. Closest would be the X74 is my guess.
PSS9s here. I hear the 10s have diff valving. The additional +1 adjustment means nothing to me.
I feel my PSS9s are already pretty damn stiff. Salient real-world scenario challenge: You put a paper latte cup with lid on the cupholder... the liquid goodness within will sometimes spill out of the small sippy opening if you go over a small bumper or two.
Ride height adjustment was the biggest pleezer for me. X74 leaves too much gappage.
I was hoping that someone had pss10s on their car. I have read enough on the others, but the 10s look significantly different than the 9s in terms of the spring set up, and it sounds like the dampening is different as well. They seem like they may be the best of both worlds, not as soft as the 9 but more comlpiant than the X74. I may never track this car, but I want the benefits of a true coil over suspension. It will mostly be driven to club events, shows, and in the seasonal club rally.
If you want to get close to a GT3 suspension, why don't you get a used GT3 suspension and add GT3 sway bars. That's the way Paul996 and I went and I don't regret it at all. When I started looking around for a GT3 suspension I had 3 offers (finally took LV Dell's suspension). There are tons of GT3 guys out there that feel the need to go Moton's.
Is there a such thing as an option suspension for the 996 gt3?
My Dad wants his 01' c2 to have the gt3 ride feel, why not put on a gt3 suspension?
How much do used gt3 set ups(shocks, springs & bars) go for?
Is the 996 gt3 ride height different than the 996 c2?
Hi! Not sure if a relative rookie with PSS10s counts or not. Ray S has the experienced reply! The 10s are great compared to my stock setup, but that's the limit of my experience.
I recently had the 10s installed on my C4S. For an initial setting they suggested going toward the soft edge on the rebound setting. At this time of year in MN it was probably a good idea. Ride is smoother than stock.
Tracking (if this is the correct term) is really impressive.
I am amazed at the feel when making rapid turns or even a quick swerve to avoid a pothole! The car just stays completely level. Steering is quicker, but this might be the corrected alignment. Corner balanced too while we were at it.
Just a note for your installer. For some reason the numbering system of the dampening setting was reversed from the PSS9s.
The GT3 coilovers are fully adjustable. The GT3 stock ride height is much lower than the US C2 stock ride height.
My GT3 sway bars were $300 with bushings when I got them last year (new). Used GT3 coilovers are $600 - $1,000 depending on the occasion, condition and the parts you get. Note that you need different front camber plates (sometimes they come with the GT3 suspension from the donor car, sometimes they get reused from the GT3 owner; a better and cheaper alternative to Porsche camber plates are the ones from Tarett:
http://www.tarett.com/items/996-997-products/list.htm
). You'll also need new droplinks front and rear as well as drop link mounting parts in the front (should come with the GT3 coilovers attached to the struts). If you'll get the stock GT3 drop links with the coilovers - use them, they work fine, if you want adjustable drop links; there are various sources, one is again Tarett.
Installation is similar to all other coilover suspensions and involves 5-10 hours labor depending on the shop or DIY experience. As after every suspension change, get an alignment done and maybe corner balancing (optional).
