The previous thread has almost all of what I do...I add some gasoline stabilizer to the full tank...you need to run the motor for a few minutes for proper circulation.
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

Hello everyone, I am very happy to be a new member and look forward to many informative discussion with all of you.
I am the proud owner of a 996 and probably like all of you cherish the moments spent in , around and in conversation about our porsche. Unfortunately, I am entering my first winter season and will soon be preparing the vehicle for storage. I have read alot of articles but would like to get some advise from those who have actually gone through several storage sessions. How do you store your vehicle and what advise would you give to a newbie?
Cheers and safe driving.

Welcome!

Just received a published technical bulletin from porsche for all you interested parties on winter storage. I thought I would share it with you as an addition to the great tips mentioned above from members.
Porsche recommends the following:
1.If vehicle remains in storage more then 3 months, remove spark plugs and disconnect coil wires from distributor caps. Ground the coil wires using jumper cable.
2. squirt 3-5 cm of engine oil into each combustion chamber
3. reinstall spark plugs and torque to 25-30nm ( 18-22 ft.lbs )
4. do not connect spark plugs and coil wires
5. do not operate engine until vehcile is put back in service
6. Seal the air intake ducts and muffler tailpipes
7. Battery should be removed and stored in cool dry place and do not fast charge battery.
8. Interior must be dry especially floor carpets. Silica-Gel is recommended as a drying agent. 3 fabric bags of 500 grams each placed on the floor carpets.
9. Windows, doors, lids and top must be closed
10. Do not apply hand brake
11. Engage a gear on maunual transmissions to prevent shift rod corrosion.
When time to place vehicle back into service.
1. remove seal from air intake and muffler pipe.
2. Install battery
3. Check for any fluid leaks under vehicle
4. Do not depress accelerator pedal. do not run engine at high RPM's during warm up.
5. Switch a/c at idle rpm and check state of charge
6. adjust tire pressure
7. apply brakes several times at LOW road speed ( very important ) . Brakes may not be at highest possible braking efficiency.
I am certainly not as technically inclined as some of this areas required in this bulletin, but definitely good information.
Cheers and safe driving.
Changing plugs is a real pain. I just put in Sta-Bil. I put my car up on TireCradle's to prevent flat spotting. Plug in the battery maintainer. Change oil before strorage. I drive the car for 10 miles or so to get it up to full temp. I leave the hard top on soft top down obviously. I don't start the car again till I'm ready to use it again for regular everyday use.
I have been doing this for 4 years with no problems.
my car will be in an indoor heated parking garage. my plan was to keep it covered and visit it every couple of weeks and drive a few laps around the garage. depending on road conditions would even take it out. but, can i avoid all of these tips by driving it for a few laps indoors?
Related question to all:
Is there any risk/harm in driving your Porsche on dry, sunny [but cold] winter days? (i.e., at least once every couple of months) This would obviate the need for all of this winter storage stuff, no??? (And, after all, you did buy the car to drive it, right?).
