Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Hi, a friend of mine is probably going to be ready for a new car within the year, and has asked me for input. I think he's really enjoy having a 996, and considering the current deprciation levels, the price may be right. This would be a 6-speed coupe. My concern is over determining the cost of ownership. Can a good PPI reveal if the car has RMS probablems, or is likely to develop it? What other big issues should one look for? Must-have options, or things to avoid? Avarge off-warrenty maintainence costs? If there is a newbie or used car buying guide for the 996 I've love to read it.

POST 2Original post

This is an easy one, all repairs cost an increment of $500. So for pulling the car in the door of the dealer it is $500, after that it goes up by $500 - $1000 - $1500, etc. At some point you go to the showroom and buy a new one. A new set of tires every 10,000 miles is $1000. Insurance is $1500-$3000 per year. No matter what you pay for it upfront, you are going to put some bucks into it going forward. I would hate being car poor, but that is just me. Good luck to your friend.

Jessa, A couple of points: - Make sure that you understand the difference in the model years - figure out which ones are in your budget - Determine what configuration you want. By this I mean color and options. Understand that these cars are a la carte and can have anywhere from $5K in options to $35K in options, and more. So know what you are looking for. Be aware that certain options, such as PSM, cannot be added aftermarket. On a used car, more options don't necessarily cost any more. - Take your time. I spent 4 months looking for mine - Get a PPI done. - Enjoy the car!!!
