A/S just looks right on a Porsche, always has, not the prettiest or flashiest but your car will always look clean even when filthy, won't attract unwanted attention, and easy resale color.

I'm learning already - I didn't know the memory seat setting also saves the side mirror settings!
These are separate views of the same evidence. Frequency alone does not establish a fix, and these counts must not be added together.

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

I am still not yet up to speed with some of the lingo here....
Drove the car home from Long Island last night. Got to know the clutch REAL well, since I was stuck in traffic for half my 2 hour ride. Most amazing thing I noticed about the car is the torque - it just keeps going! It's scary how fast the car can reach jail-time speeds, in 3rd gear! I don't care if the '02+ cars have more torque - this one is fine for me! And the sound of the engine at 5k rpm tells me this is a racing machine dressed in casual clothes!
There are a few problems - the stereo makes this static noise every so often, like there is a short in the radio ground or something? And the clutch pedal sounds like it was made by Atari! Either it's that dreaded spring helper, or it just needs massive amounts of lube? Not sure I want a SSK, but the stock shifter is a little--vague? Easy enough, but I did throw it into reverse by accident once.
Enough complaining. Here are a few pics of the car after I removed the gaudey colored crest center caps and swapped some nice black ones in!
I'm sorry I missed the drive. I had to get the car sorted a bit. The tires needed air, and, after the long drive last night, I just wanted to chill and read the manual! I'm learning already - I didn't know the memory seat setting also saves the side mirror settings!
Congrats man!
You better quit reading the manual and get out there and do some driving. Doesn't look like tomorrow's going to be a fun day for all of you in the NE.
Congrats!
Did you solve the radio static problem? Do you own a Treo by any chance? It's a known problem that some generations of Treos will cause intermittent static noise in nearby radios while they are transmitting data. Mine will throw static into my car stereo, some speakerphones, and even the baby monitor.
No Treo, and the static is more than a station that's not strong enough. Sounds like someone is touching the radio with a cattle prod or stun gun! Like one of the speakers is broken (but it isn't)??
Nice nice nice. I'm next - two days to go! I like th eblack bumperettes too by the way, even though my 2002 is coming with painted ones. I have crested centre caps as well. Maybe I'll sell mine too. I want to get a set of flat black wheels.
Enough chatter - go drive, more pics.
Ok Crazy, the "punkin' look" has GOT to go!
No soup for you until they're gone!
Very nice Andy!
Enjoy her!
PS - I'm glad you posted some pics so I didn't have to b!tch slap you like a damn "Newbie!"
nice looking P-car Andy. And by the way what is it that you guys are referring to as the front pumpkins? The yellow side markers? I am still not yet up to speed with some of the lingo here....
Yes, the front amber turn side markers are "pumpkins", which are better than the "sunny side up" headlights on the '99's! Right?
I may get clear markers, but I think the amber lenses add a dash of color on an otherwise mono-chrome body.
Here are a few more shots, one artsy low-light, one motor:
Very nice car Andy. Congratulations.
BTW, What was the first thing you did this morning? Peek into the garage to see if she's still there ... ? Or just make sure it wasn't a dream last night ... ?
Now take off that dealer tag and reclick the artsy photograph. I'm sure you'll be busy "photographing" a lot more in the future.
I had to leave the car outside last night, since my 944 was in the garage, and the two Hondas were out in the driveway. The C2 sat there, waiting for me in the morning. First thing I did was look out the window this morning. Saw the car in the daylight, looking even nicer than I remembered!
I'll take more pix when I get my normal plates - I noticed the temp tag when I uploaded the picture - oh well! It is part of the car's history!
One question - what are the little tiny doors in the channel that runs across the roof on both sides? They flip open, and there's a little plastic screw head under there. What do they do?
congrats! I am sure you feel just like I did 2 weeks ago when I picked up my C4.
I am still diving for and drinking up every bit of info I can find.
The clips that flip up are for a roof rack.
I drive through Northern NJ 2 times a week. I'll be looking for you on the roads.
Enjoy!
Louis
I have the original owner's name and phone number. He traded the car into a Mercedes dealer. I wanna call him and ask about the car and see if there is anything he can tell me. Would that be too intrusive?
hmmm.... thats an interesting question. Etiquette is involved.
As it was traded in for a Benz and not another Porsche, he may not be as 'passionate' ( read OTT ) abut 911's as we are.
A phone call may be a bit of a surprise. How about a sending a letter with some brief questions inviting the seller to contact you via the means of his choice...email,tel, snail mail etc... This way there is no surprise and the seller may be able to prepare adequately.
That being said I am typically overly cautious about encroaching on anothers space. Many years in Asia has drummed that caution into this NY boys head.
Hope it helps,
Louis
The little doors on the roof are for the Mini Sidewinder Missiles, two in front and two in the rear. There are used primarily for clearing heavy traffic congestion. Here are the the dash switches which control the launch.
Tim, thought I was done for the time being, but I need the missle mod!! can you send me the part numbers for the switches and the sidewinders?
Andy, great car! don't let the kids drop a milk bottle on the rear floor that goes unnoticed until the car smells like s$)@# and you have to rip out the carpet and...
just speaking hypothetically.
No food in my car! I made my kids take their shoes off before climbing all over the supple leather!
I did spill a coffee on my 944's passenger mat, when my cup-holder-less car turned left and the paper carry tray tipped over! I'm still traumatized!
Congrats - the car looks super clean and a really nice 00. Would totally keep the amber lights, I think it "enhances" the silver!
For the radio, most GSM cell phones tend to interfere (they did on my 01). I.e. Blackberries, Tmobile phones or cingular/ATT phones - anything but verizon. if you have one, try turning it off.
Re the clutch noise. There is a TSB but i could never get rid of it by lube (on my 01);dealer said had to remove the spring, or do some work which was ~ 3 hours labor - so i lived with it (if we have the same problem) hope this helps. See you at A NNJ event. Ross
Interesting, my cell phone was in the little storage space under the radio. I tried the radio with the car off, in the garage, and it seemed fine. Either the engine is causing the static or interfearance, or, it was my cell phone! Will have to experiment later.
PS--Why does the "hi-fi" option have sound like two AM radios going at the same time?
Yep, that's what I meant by the Treo, but didn't realize other phones could cause it as well. It DOES sound like someone is cattle-prodding your radio. It happens to me every time I get lazy and leave my Treo in that storage space.
Something to do with the GSM signal... tend to be picked up by certain wires when within ~3ft. We have the problem as well with our headset boxes at work... if my bberry is ~6 inches nearby, I get the exact same interference.
I am sure someone has a more technical reason behind it.
Didn't happen in my 944. That under-radio cubby hole is great for storing cell phones too! I may have to get the non-smoker ash tray replacement (unless that's not far enough away from the radio?)!
Glad you finally took delivery. I can share your excitement! As far as I'm concerned you got the right color. A/S just looks right on a Porsche, always has, not the prettiest or flashiest but your car will always look clean even when filthy, won't attract unwanted attention, and easy resale color.
After nearly 4 years with my '99 Cab, I'm still extermely pleased and am reluctant to buy anything newer or faster (TT, GT3) because I don't know that I could be any happier. Sound strange?
Anyway, it sounds like you are enjoying it immensly.
