Sorry to hear about your mishap, but will you replace the damged aerokit with the same brand maker as what it had, or would you consider GT Racing's product?

Suggestion · Original poster

I could have used a different front but I figured this one provided a good compromise between keeping air out from under the car and not providing too much wind resistance.

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

11 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

0 evidence records excluded for query context · 0 excluded by outcome qualification · 0 adjusted by outcome qualification.

0 acknowledgements have no verified action link; they do not establish a repair result.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

I seem to recall that someone was putting a 3.6L in a 99 but came up empty when I searched the archives. Has anyone done this? Thanks. Jim

POST 3Original post

That's how I did the conversion. Sold the "99 and bought an '02. Other than that, I do believe that it wouldn't be worth it.

POST 4 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Let me clarify. I'm talking about swapping the engine in my race car, not a street car, so normal economics don't apply. Mine is the one temporarily in front.

POST 5Original post

Well then, that's different. OK, the external pieces are quite similar and since the 3.6 is Variocam, I assume that the ECU would be different. Other than that, how hard could it be? If you're actually going to do this, you may want to consider equipping it with some X51 specific goodies (heads, cams, etc.).

POST 6Original post

I also like to ask another related question since were talking engine swaps here. Is it feasible to just purchase a 996TT engine without the turbos and put high compression pistons/programmable ecu management etc. Since it has a tru dry sump would it work? Regards. Mike

POST 7Original post

By the way JimB-very nice car : ). Regards. Mike

POST 8 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Mike, Thanks. Unfortunately it doesn't look like that right now. Some guy lost it coming out of the Carousel at RA and knocked me into the wall at a high rate of speed. Ouch. If I'm going to rebuild it I need to make it faster than it was before. I'm in the same class as 993 RSs and 993 TTs. Therefore my questions on if anyone has done the 3.6 conversion. I have to keep the car stock but I can upgrade to later 996 specs. Jim

POST 9Original post

Sorry to hear that has happened to you. Hope you weren't injured. Must have been a total surprise when it happened. Your car will come out brand new I'm sure. By the way what suspension you have on your car-looks really nice. Regards. Mike

POST 10Original post

Jim, a little out of context, but a comment /question on your aerokit: Is that aerokit from Porsche, or an aftermarket dealer (Like GT Racing)? Sorry to hear about your mishap, but will you replace the damged aerokit with the same brand maker as what it had, or would you consider GT Racing's product? Any comment on GT Racing products? Thanks in advance.

POST 11 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Mike, I have the Moton Club Sport dampers with pretty stiff springs and ERP momoballs. It's good for the track but would be pretty punishing on the street. Authur, I have/had the factory GT3 areokit. You must use a factory wing in the stock classes. I could have used a different front but I figured this one provided a good compromise between keeping air out from under the car and not providing too much wind resistance. We talked to the GT Racing folks before I ordered this one but decided to go with the OEM stuff. I'll probably use the same kit when I rebuild.
