Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Some of the long-timers on this board may know that I was trying desparately to sell my car. The main reason was that my wife was not convinced that "we" needed that in our lives. She convinced me based on financial reasons (turn the car into a downpayment) and others. She can't really drive stick and moving downtown means space for just one car. So how can the p-car suffice to be the only car and moreover, something she can't really even drive. And looked in that light, how the hell can anyone justify against that? But then life plays its turn and leaves you going whaaaaaaaaa???? Maybe its because she sees how much pleasure I get from driving this car or god knows what but she has done an about face tonight. I can now "keep" my car and we will work out another plan to afford that downtown condo We worked out a commuting plan where I can "park" her car at the Metra station and drive that to work. At least that's the plan right now. For what its worth, I made a good faith effort and tried selling it at $60K and got nothing. I took it to Carmax who said $50K and really pressured me in selling it to them. I called my original dealer, The Porsche Exchange, and was told that they don't do consignment. However, my original salesperson thought that there was a good chance I could get "mid to high 40s" for it if I decided to sell it outright I tried, Motorwerks in Barrington, and they were much better. They not only offered consignment but said that I could get $53K for it easy if I want to go that route. I didn't. I advertised it $57K and got no bites. I think if I went to $55 - $56 I probably would have sold it. The good thing that came out of all this is I really tried to make best of my "remaining" time with my baby in the last month or so and really concentrated on getting the most out of each drive, each curve, and each open stretch of the road. Less washing, more concentration on the driving. Kept repeating "be smooth, be smooth" with each shift. Hell, if I only had X number of shifts left, I might as well take it a bit higher but really try to nail it with a world class shift. Take the curves a bit faster but be much more mindful of the technique, the weight transfer, the apex, the smoothness of the actions. Without going crazy or anything, I finally brought up the nerve to induce oversteer and try to steer by throttle on some open curves in the last week. Loved the feeling! So true, you don't know what you have till its gone...So freaking true. In all practicality, I was resigned to sell the car, which is in brand new condition, to someone and take a loss and put on a happy face about it. I'm glad to get the car "back" and actually come out of the whole ordeal with a MUCH, MUCH better appreciation of the driving experience. No substitute, no sir....

POST 2Original post

Sounds like your wife is a keeper. Any chance you could teach her to drive the C2, maybe even get her to do a PCA driver's ed event? Might change it from "your" car to "our" car.

POST 3Original post

no offense meant BUT....i am always amazed when guys talk about their wives or girlfriends " letting " them do things...if it was the other way around the women would be bitching at their friends that the man is controlling and dominating. Can you give me an example of where you forbid her to do something or asked her to get rid of something she treasured?

POST 4Original post

From a 993 board visitor: A wife who indulges our interests? Even when they're in conflict with hers? Quite right - there is no substitute. With respect, I recommend flowers. Regards to all.

POST 5Original post

I doubt his wife actually made him put the car up for sale. I doubt she even threatened to divorce him if he didn't. "My wife made me" is usually a euphemism for "I'll pretend my wife forced me to do something so I get more credit for having done so." i.e. "After my heart attack, my wife made me cut back on fried foods." .

POST 6Original post

what would the card with the flowers say? " gee thanks honey for letting me have a car i like?" good precedent to set..she complains...you give in...she allows you to have what you want and then you buy her flowers as a thank you for cutting your nuts off. again, can i have an example where the man stopped the woman from doing what she wanted?? love to hear it. bill maher was rigght about the feminising of america...make that north america

POST 7Original post

strange how games have to be played to just operate in a marriage...can you say passive agressive? please someone post an example of a man stopping a woman from doing what she wants with cars, clothes, whatever

POST 9Original post

yes that is exactly what you will say when you sell your car because of the wife and then she leaves you for being weak!!! still havent heard any reverse examples of the man telling the woman to sell her stuff Ha HA!!

POST 10Original post

I can give you hundreds, if not thousands, of examples. Although to be fair, I didn't stop her from buying those things anymore than she stopped me from buying things I want. It's more a sense of mutual respect for each other. My wife would no more go out and buy a $100K ring without talking to me about it, than I would go out and buy a new GT3 without talking to her about it. It's our money --not my money, not her money. Are you married? Does your wife work? Or are you just super wealthy so spending habits are of no concern? (I must admit, that would be nice.) Is it your opinion that a real man does what he wants and his woman should just fall in line? Or is your wife's opinion on things truly not worth considering? Odd that you would marry someone if you felt that way about them.

POST 11Original post

i am married i have my own business and my wife has her own business. i dont want a woman or man to fall in line i think each should be able to do what they want when they want as long as it isnt hurting the other person financially ,physically or emotionally. obviously if you are buying rings or cars and cant pay the bills you are operating incorrectly but it seems in these cases its about control. i was selling a motorcycle years ago and i must have had 100 men come thru and look at it to buy..at least 80% said " oh man i would love that bike but the wife would kill me or wouldnt let me" nothing to do with finances. all im saying is if you earn the money and you take care of your responsibilities you should be able ( man or woman) to buy what you want. AGAIN..give me an example of where you made your wife or girlfriend sell something she likes

POST 12Original post

JLJ: My wife ( then girlfriend ) gave up her family, friends, a decent job and a 3000 square feet house and all her belongings (other then what will fit in one suitcase)to elope with me to a foreign country with a friends passport(her parents had her passport) to live in a 15 square feet room with me for 2 years( yes you read it right 15 ) at the age of 18 for the sole reason that she loved me and yes, that I asked her to. So if I have to ask her permission to do something, SO BE IT. She has given up more in life in her prime then anybody else I know simply because she loves me. Since then, we have worked very hard so that we can afford things like my car and her ring. But not a day goes by that I don't think about how I'm blessed with a woman that truely loves me enough to gave up all that. And if we ever hit bad times in life again, I know she would give up her ring without question if I asked her to. So I should'nt bitch if I'm asked to gave up a small thing like a car. regards, Peter

POST 13Original post

A car payment usually isn't a trivial thing. If the car payment is going to affect some things that your wife wants, then she has a say in what kind of car you're getting.

POST 14Original post

everyone is missing the point again...if you have to suffer financially or hurt the other person they should absolutely have a say. if there is no downside besides the fact they dont want you to have something its silly. giving up things voluntarily to be with someone doesnt count either. im talking about 1 person forcing another to give up a toy or hobby just because they decide they dont like it. your wife moving away with you was her choice...you didnt force her or guilt her into it...all you are doing is supporting my position for which i thank you. AGAIN SOMEONE GIVE ME AN EXAMPLE OF A MAN FORCING OR GUILTING A WOMAN INTO GIVING UP A TOY,HOBBY,FRIEND,ACTIVITY ETC. PLEASE. AND NOT DUE TO FINANCES

POST 15Original post

JLJ: LOL.... well, since you narrow it down so much... couldn't say I have. But again, Since you narrow it down to that, She has'nt made me gave up anything either. And Chicago996's wife is'nt MAKING him give up his car according to your definition since it's based on family financial reasons. Peter

POST 16Original post

For us peons, It's always about finances. Read up on opportunity costs if you don't understand why. My wife couldn't 'force' me to sell my car. But if she were to make a good case that owning this car now means not being able to buy our dream house, retire at a certain age, send our kid to the best College etc. etc. I would sell it. And when my friends asked me, "Why did you get rid of the Porsche?", I'd tell them my wife made me. I suppose I could sit down with my fiancial records and show them the real reason, but that's more information then they want or need. It's just an expression...don't read so much into it. .

POST 17Original post

Are you trying to say that a guy has never forced or guilted a woman into giving up a male friend that she has?

POST 18Original post

GOOD POINT!! and doing that is insecure ,controlling and pathetic too

POST 19Original post

Tell me a man who can go down to the local bar and pick up a porsche Donny J

POST 20Original post

Another great point! im assuming you are saying give in and be whipped because the car is easier to pick up than the woman??? i guess if a guy had a hot ( or at least he thought hot) wife and didnt feel he would ever meet someone he was more attracted to he would put up with crap to keep her...which is what im trying to say. stop being whipped
