Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.
Discussions that report identifying a cause
1
0 original-poster resolution reports. Counts can overlap; they are not unique people or a success rate.
0 discussions have direct query context; 0 report a fix in that context. Other evidence may inherit the discussion’s subject.
Leading evidence: 'whole time' (1 discussions report identifying this cause; no attributable repair resolution). Across 1 matching discussions, the most frequently mentioned possible cause is 'whole time' (1 discussions; 1 report identifying it and 0 suggest it). The most frequently discussed action is 'Recommend by pca' (1 discussions). For that action, 0 discussions report a resolution and 0 report an unsuccessful attempt. No action has an explicit, attributable resolution report under the current rules. These are forum reports and suggestions, not a confirmed diagnosis.

I used DAS to ship the green one on the left from Seattle to FL early this year and can't say I was displeased with the service overall.

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

Apologies in advance for such a simple question, but I had no luck with the search function.
I am buying an 03 996 which is about 1,000 miles away. I am trying to decide whether to go get it and drive it home, or have it shipped. Could anyone recommend a shipping company that would not cost a fortune? This is just a base unmodified 996, so it shouldn't present any particular shipping problems.
I used DeMoise Trucking [phone removed]. They were great. Closed container, had the drivers cell phone. Knew where it was the whole time. Delivered when they said in perfect shape.
I would definitely drvie that car home. Gives you a chance to learn about it, bond with it, and discover all sorts of new things about your car that you normally wouldn't over that pariod of time. Also, if you are buying this car sight unseen, it would be a good idea to see what you are getting before forking over the cash......pics can be very deceiving.
I would vote for the drive, mostly, it depends somewhat on what part of the country that thousand miles covers. I used DAS to ship the green one on the left from Seattle to FL early this year and can't say I was displeased with the service overall.
I have used DAS twice now with mixed results. First time was great, second time was alot of blunders (couldn't find the car, took twice as long as promised, etc.). But, with that said I will probably use them again next summer when we move again.
I spoke with Bill DeMoise. He couldn't help me because of the routing, but was completely up front about it and gave me the name of another company. Seemed very credible. Thanks for the suggestion.
Dont do it. Have it shipped. Youll have plenty of time to bond with your car. I would never want to take a 12 hour trip in my 02 coupe. I had my car shipped from North Carolina by Athena movers, cost $550.00.
Also, I couldnt afford the time out of work.
Get on a plane and go get it...and drive it home! A 1000 mile trip will be a great experience for you and the car. No question about it. Fly out on a Saturday morning, you'll be home be Sunday.
Intercity lines: NY to CA, $1800. Last year May they were $1600 for a similar trip from MA to CA. Add $900 for the boat ride to Hawaii and there you have it. Not bad for a third of the way around the world or so.
If you ship it, it'll take longer but may end up w less hassle. Intercity is good but generally 25% more in cost than a shipper like DAS. Do a search on "auto shipper" for other recommendations. I'd choose enclosed because they generally take less time and is easier to identify any damage upon arrival. Make sure there is no deductible in their insurance so they pay you for any damage.
If you've not seen the car and want to close the deal in person after seeing it, I'd take the drive home route. If it's a done deal, and you aren't in a hurry, have it shipped. These days, gas aint cheap and factoring in airline tickets, 1 night motel and mileage, I rather have it shipped for $500-800.
Drive it home! You'll have a great time bonding with your new toy; my drive home was all of three miles (ahem: England is somewhat smaller than the US); man i wish it had been 1,000mi
Hey Man....you gotta drive it home. A few years ago I bought my second 911 from a guy in Seattle (I live in TN).....I flew out and drove it home and had a wonderful time. It's a great way to see the country and a great way to get "in touch" with your new ride.
But----if you have to ship it I recommend Passport Transport...I think they are a division of FedEx. None of the shippers are going to be cheap and it is a competative business (read--they all charge about the same thing) but the guys at Passport do an excellent job.
Good Luck
