Hey Dead Eye, Check on ebay, I saw some Gemballa NA front flares for early 996.

Thus i would like to replace my above comment with this one, which is a more elaborate version of my thoughts on it:

^ yeah i didn't include rear wheels in the poll because i'm going to get those regardless..just trying 2 work out sizing and offset because i don't want to use spacers.
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

Installed NR Auto GT2 Bumper and MISHA GT2 wing.
Let me say this: the MISHA Wing's quality is phenominal for aftermarket. The NR Auto bumper is pathetic, i was almost about 2 send it back to them, but after having my shop go over it, it wasn't as bad so i decided it wasn't worth the hassel.
And withou futher ado, a teaser shot (nice ones will be put up after importfest 2morro):
If you want more cosmetic mods, my suggestions in order:
- Wheels
- skirts
If you go with the RUF fender extensions (God, how I love those) you'll definitely need larger wheels IMHO. Do you know of a source other than RUF?
Chronos,
I bought my RUF RGT Aerokit from Weissach in Canada (
www.weissach.com
). They provided very friendly service over the phone. For US orders, they only take Mastercard (no Amex rewards points for me
).
I've also ordered direct from RUF in Germany but with the high Euro exchange rate and the overseas shipping it is pretty pricey so I would order from them only when Weissach is out of stock and you have to get the part right away.
There's also the RUF Autocentre in Texas (
www.rufautocentre.com
). They're hard to reach by phone so you have to email them. Shipping is cheaper than Weissach (Texas vs. Canada) but Weissach's prices are a little lower so it works out to about the same.
Weissach is having a sale right now so call them for their sale pricing. And no, I am not affiliated with Weissach -- I'm just a happy customer.
Programmatore,
I must be strong. I must be strong. I've got a RUF front spoiler and an aftermarket carbon fiber GT2 rear wing/decklid on the way... must be strong. My wife would KILL me if I got the fender extensions.
Maybe ask for forgiveness later?
Funny aside- my wife's best friend grew up in Germany. Turns out her dad is close friends with Mr. Aloise Ruf. Even attended his wedding (he even showed me the pictures when he learned what a fan of RUF I am). Her dad's moving back into town this fall. This spring he and I spent an entire evening chatting about fast cars, and he shared stories about test driving in a few RUFs with Aloise! Yeah, I was on the edge of my seat.
you dwfinetelly need sideskirts and wheels.....
aero II sideskirts are the best for GT-2 look.
about the wheels you need another set since these you have do not suit the package
concerning the CF hood.
my personal opinion is to live as it is...but if yes, try to match the look with the rest of the car: for example mach the paint of the hood with the top of the car....
this way it just looks as if you have crashed the car and you have found a second-hand part on a yard and just put it on....
keep us informed....
^ yeah i didn't include rear wheels in the poll because i'm going to get those regardless..just trying 2 work out sizing and offset because i don't want to use spacers.
chronos: GT Racing i believe, has bolt on fender flares a la RGT RS, not sure on pricing. I remember weissach told me like 4 grand for their flares tho, nuts to them says I.
Hey Dead Eye, Check on ebay, I saw some Gemballa NA front flares for early 996. If I remember correctly, they've been on there for quite a while. Contact him outside ebay and make him an offer if you like them - let's just say they are willing to move merchandise (like my cf interior).
I voted for the mirrors to tie in the hood. The hood is cool, but a bit ricey for my taste. Paint it, or get more CF.
Your car is bitchen looking!
I almost voted for the Ruf fenders, that would really be different from the norm.
-Darren
dead eye, i voted for aero kit 2 sides... Definitely need them to balance out the agressive front.
Then, I would add some nice CF mirrors (from 969
) and some black rims... mmmm
cars looking great btw
Just a lil miscelenious update: my car took home 2nd place in the exotic/luxury category @ Importfest 2005...not bad for its first showing.
The car which beat it was an SLK 55 (or 500 i'm not sure) with huge chrome rims and an audiovisual setup incar and trunk.
front bumper looks great!.... if you change the wheels you may want to use some type of computer imaging program and select a "black" wheel to match the hood and see hwo that would look... as for the skirts go aerokit 2 and 02+ rear bumper. I'm always a fan of the Champion RG5 18" rims...
You need wheels and sides and she'lll be conplete.
Congrats on your showing. I couldn't make it to Import Fest this year. Who took third place? I'm surprised usally that crazy Supercharged Arena Red 993 GT2 wide body always wins first. Was he there?
cheers
-Steve
That's unfortunate. I guess that happens when you supercharge a high compression motor. That car looks fast just standing still.
I'll be heading over to G-Tek tomorrow to check it out.
Though it may be a little faster than stock it's one sweeeeet looking 993. Very unique. Loads of carbon fiber.
Should be a serious car if it's sponsored by Bridgestone.
-Steve
NOTE: follow up to my above comment about the 993.
The owner of the 993 above contacted a friend of mine and was not please with the way i was talking about his car. I have nothing against him or his car, and i believe that it was taken it far too seriously (as any Porsche is an awsome car, and i'm all for people customising cars as they see fit). I would like to
Widthdraw
my above comment as now that i re-read it, it does sound unduely critical and doesn't give his car the respect it deserves, because having seen it myself, it is obvious that a lot of time and planning went into it.
Thus i would like to replace my above comment with this one, which is a more elaborate version of my thoughts on it:
The 993 cabrio in question is a very well put toghether car, as you can clearly see when you look at it. The components he has put into it are all brand name and, well the photos of his car speak for themself, i'm sure many of you have drooled over it, as i myself have too.
My comment about "audio garbage" was a little excessive and all i ment to ensinuate is that it might be a little overdone, i mean, stacking a car like a porsche with amps electronic entertainment and whatnot. But like i said earlier, you can do whatever you want to ur car. Apparently his car is also quite quick (see link below) and does a low 12 second quartermile, so i guess that comment has been put to rest by a posting of fact.
As for the reliability issue, it is apparently within normal opperating parameters for a supercharged motor, but the owner has had some problems with a previous tuner who was not performing work, stealing parts and money and whatnot. I will not post any more info on this issue till he says i can because i really am not the kind of person who likes to stir the pot or **** people off.
here is a link to some info on his car:
http://www.tunerzine.com/articles/20...e/article.html
If the owner of the car happens to read this, i'm sorry if my comments came off unduely harsh, and i retract them, please see my response above. In any event, i hope this incident will not cause you to hold a negative personal opinion of me, as i dont really have anything against you or your car. This kind of internet trash talking is the stuff you find on civic boards and doesn't belong amonst porsche owners, sorry mate.
I can be reached by email or PM on rennlist if you want.
regards,
omar.
well i will stir the pot...thar car is hideous and if you are going to cheeze and rice up your car with carbon and big stickers you better expect some negative comments about your bad taste. its puke and i hope you tell him so or he reads this....
verryy noyce but i am biased
do you have a close up of the venting on top. the bumper i have doesn't have the vents (wish it did). also did it come with air ducts?
i still like the aero 1 sideskirts over the aero 2. and paint the hood as well
.
carlos, my bumper is exactly the same as yours as in ur sig. um..i'm not sure which air ducts u are talking about, but the only holes in mine are the 3 big ones one the front for the center rad and 2 condensers, and the two slits at the top of the bumper.
Went to Gtek today met the owner. Quite the nice guy, we spoke about this thread and he said he's used to hardcore P-car guys bashing him about his audio and the naked carbon (said it's a "points" car whatever that means). He doesn't really care and would rather forget it and just go on a cruise with you guys, grab a drink and talk Pcars all day long.
What he brought with him today was a bunch of goodie$ RS valves, racing valve springs, titan retainers, Web racing cams, extrude honed heads, Carillo rods, 3.8 JE P&Cs and a bunch of other stuff. Apparently he's doing all this for the SECOND time! He claims to have paid his old mechanic to do the exact same thing with a supercharger and nothing was performed but the supercharger. Gtek is taking care of him now. Who can you trust nowadays?
NOBLEGT3
I asked him too about the stickers and I did add the comment RICEY, but he doesn't care he says. He says him and his team are the official North American show car team for Bridgestone Corporate and that it is worth putting on a BRIDGESTONE sticker for 4 sets of FREE tires a yea, a KINESIS sticker for a FREE set of wheels and MOTUL (never heard of that brand) for free oil every time he gets an oil change.
He just landed a sponsorship from EBS racing who provided him with all the new parts he was carrying with him today. So expect a big EBS racing sticker.
Honestly HELL YEAH I'll put on a couple of stickers to score free stuff! Tires aren't cheap, kinesis wheels are absolutely not cheap! hell neither are oil changes! Where do I sign up?!
Omar he told me he spoke to you briefly at the show about your exhaust. He spoke highly of your car and joked that he won't be the only one on the P boards being ragged on for having a naked carbon hood. Contact him if you want some Kinesis or Cargraphic wheels he told me he could make it happen for you.
Us Porsche guys should only have love for one another.
-Steve
First Round's on me...but after that...ur buyin steve
but in all seriousness we should do a pcar cruise b4 snow comes down. leaves are changing color and whatnot, i'm sure it would be quite nice (i.e. forks of credit).
As for mechanics you can trust, hopefully we can trust jack and his ppl @ G-TEK, they seem like real nice guys and i've had no problems with the work he's done to my car so far, and others seem to have a very positive opinion of the shop.
i havn't been there yet...but they're also a reputable shop..i'll be checking them out next season as well. Fiorano's specialty is GT3's and race car stuff isn't it?
Does Fiorano have a website? How much do they charge an hour? What cars do they usually work on? 996s (1999) and up? Where are they located?
I personally haven't heard bad things about Gtek. But Fiorano about 5 years ago charged a buddy of mine 1000 bucks for a custom strut tower bar that reallty wasn't that nice. Then again that's one person's experience so I've willing to try them. That's same as the experience as ZO6 with Gtek.
How about Engineered Automotive in Concord? Heimrath? Mantis Racing?
thanks
-Steve
ah gotcha. from your pics, it looks like the vent (close to the hood) has a separate black plastic piece, just like the real gt2 bumper.
also, the real gt2 bumper comes with ducting to route the air to the condensers/radiators, left and right, and another one for the center radiator which properly ducts air thru the 3rd radiator and up to the top vent.
