Coverage and how to read this overview
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

Well, though I thoroughly LOVE my Euro M Coupe, the fact that its a 2 seater is becoming a major nuance when it comes to hauling my 3 year old twin boys. I do love my car, but I have always lusted after a 911. As a matter of fact, I ended up with my car since a deal for a 93 964 fell through because the owner and I could not agree on a fair price soon enough.
Mine is a 99 M with the S50B32 engine (321hp, regular USA spec cars 240hp are worth about $25K) with 18K miles in mint shape. Artic silver on black, all stock except Yoko tires. The 911 is a 1998 996 Euro spec car with 26K miles and in need of $3K worth of repairs to make it mechanically perfect (like my car). It would still need about $2K to make it cosmetically perfect (like my car). The 911 has all the options that I would want on it (sport suspension M030 and seats, LSD, 18" rims, 6 speed, etc).
So, what do you think would be a fair trade between these two? My car plus how much cash? Dealer is asking $38K for the 911 and I think my car is worth something like $30K. He has not been able to sell the 911 in approximately a year and I have only gotten one offer for $18K for my car. This is the market in Panama.
Any suggestions or opinions? Thanks for taking the time to respond.
Hard to say... In the US, the price gap seems to be at least $10-$12k for M coupe and 911 of same year/condition. Has the dealer made an initial trade-in offer?
You are in a tough bind in that you and the dealer have cars that are languishing in the resale market. Your M Coupe is a very nice car with the proper M engine. It unfortunately has a very small market as obviously dose the 996 in your area. You will not get a good price for a trade-in from the dealer as he/she also knows the numbers for the M Coupe in Panama. You are better off selling it locally and buying a 996 when you ready. I'd offer the dealer 30k for the 996 and let that stand. The other option is of course buying yourself a family car and using the M Coupe for youself.
Thanks for the replies. The original deal was my car plus $20K! for the 911. He is now reconsidering that. I think that mine plus $5K would be fair, but wanted to bounce it off some other people. I could wait to sell my car privately, but after 6 months, it gets kinda old and I no longer want to sit my twin boys in the front seat surrounded by airbags and unrestrained (no money in the world is worth that risk!). Since I barely put 4K miles a year on my car and have no space for a second car (for myself), having two cars is really not an option that I am considering. Again, thank you for your opinions.
Hey Gus. I don't know too much about the P-Car market in Panama, but I will be heading there again for the holidays. We should get together. My twin boys could meet your twin boys. What is it with Panamanians and twins?
Hello TD in DC,
Please do contact me when you come by Panama. Would love to show you around. My identical twins, well I am afraid that I am at fault for that (runs in my side of the family). For me, a double blessing, just got a find a 911 to ride around with them!
