I had a black one on my Lapis Blue, and it didn't show up very well, so installed a silver one, which I like better.

When I had a similar problem with a low initial assessment the body shop basically said don't worry about any "adders" to make it a perfect repair because they would take care of it directly with the insurance company....and they did.

If so that's incredibly lucky........that whole piece s/b replaced (yes it's reparable but that's bad enough for replace).......FYI the good body shop can pull it up on their parts computer but there is more to it than just the the polyU bumper......behind it is support that makes it rigid, brackets, and exhaust.
Replace ).......fyi the good body shop can pull it up

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

Was going to wait till I had my new rims on to post my required newbie-to-the-forum pic post. But, this happened yesterday and while its still a pretty darn tender subject for me ... It should get a few laughes. (and maybe some sympathy? *hint* *hint*)
I pulled into a Wal-Mart parking lot to take a phone call. (Saftey first) As soon as I stopped a older gent was trying to whip his POS truck through two parking spots and CRUUUNCH. He was about to take off too but stopped at soon as he heard my stream of obscenities being lashed at him.
Also, any tips for working with a lame insurance adjuster? I want my baby fixed right and this ain't no Toyota Camary ya know.
Love this board ... some really great people here. Need to become a paid member soon.
Thats sucks, but at least it didnt touch thae wing!. Just take the car to your local Porsche dealer and let them deal with the insurance companys, Did you call yours and what have they said thus far??
Well, I've talked to the drivers insurance company and they said an adjuster will be calling on monday 10/3/05. I thought leaving my insurance company out of it until nessecary might be a good idea.
Thoughts?
Arriflex - That DOES suck, BIG TIME! I'm feeling your pain. What part of his POS truck did he leave as a deposit? What is that "L" bracket? With any luck he also crunched your exhaust can on that side. Might be a good opportunity to upgrade to PSE! hee hee!
Well, you SHOULD get something out of this to ease your "pain and suffering," IMO. Good luck, and let us know how you make out. Don't forget to post "before" and "after" pics when you get it repaired.
My first recommendation...don't refer to him as a lame insurance adjuster! For all you know he may have a Porsche too! Trust me on this one...being nice, honest and polite goes a long way for an adjuster when he is faced each and every day with crooks and others attempting insurance fraud.
Sorry to hear! I was about to cry looking at that picture
Well, at least now (being optimistic), you can upgrade rear bumpers to an 02+ or turbo-look...
feel sorry for u.
u are looking at a bumper cover, bumper filling.
well, u were luncky this time, no more body damage other the bumper. otherwise, the repair cost going to be crazy.
as for insurence, do u have any witness, police report? it is harder to deal with since it happened in park lot.
well, the good thing is, after the repair, no one can't tell the diff. so cheer up
gota911 - the "deposit" is similar to the attached pic below
Shark -
When I called his insurance company she told me to leave the fender attached, take pics, then yank it out.
Surgeon!! Ya man, first thing I thought when I heard that crunch was "There goes the wing!"
raclaims - I hear ya ... I'm actually a pretty laid back guy and easy to get along with ... but if they try to give me static on getting it repaired correctly ... I'll have to lay the lumber down on him.
While its in the shop I was thinking of getting side skirts put on. Any recommendations on a good place to pick some up?
Arriflex - I've been looking for good prices for side skirts also since that is my next mod. Check out the November issue of Excellence magazine. BW Motorsports has OEM 996 side skirts Aero 1 ('99 - '01) or Aero 2 ('02 - '04) for $625, which is the best price I have seen yet. Both Aero 1 & 2 will fit all 996 years. Aero 1 is more rounded and Aero 2 has a sharper edge. Because I prefer the more rounded style, I am going to go with Aero 1 for my '04 996. Hope this helps!
BTW, what year is your P-car? Have you considered replacing the black Carrera logo with a Silver one? I had a black one on my Lapis Blue, and it didn't show up very well, so installed a silver one, which I like better. Check out the before and after pics.
Your insurance company is going to find out about it eventually because all the insurance companies share data anyway. If it wasn't your fault (and generally any strikes to the rear bumper automatically point guilt at the guy with the dented front bumper) it will be better to have your insurance company on your side to get full restitution. My experience is that the adjuster will always low ball the first quote on the off chance that you will take the $ and not fix the car. But once you go down the path of fixing the car the insurance company has to pay the full price minus deductable (at least here in california). When I had a similar problem with a low initial assessment the body shop basically said don't worry about any "adders" to make it a perfect repair because they would take care of it directly with the insurance company....and they did.
gota911 - Hrm, ya I do like the look of the silver emblem. How much and where? Curse the mod bug!
I'll lookup BW Motosports for those skirts ... The dealership today told me it'd be about $356 to spray and mount the skirts.
Also, for anyone keeping score, this repair was estimated at $1220. If it needs a reinforcement bracket then $1700. This is from a Porsche/Audi dealership ... not a private repair shop.
I have some experience on this......but all states have slightly dif laws re: ins & repair.
In Wi the ins co can not 'tell you' where to get repair done. The bodyshop I go to is the best I can find.......I know the names of most of the techs.......and they know I'm a picky son of a gun......no problem, we get along....they get all my mod biz.
The dealer is not nec the best place to take this (they may be, but I'm just saying it should not be assumed).
Yes, your ins company should be involved from the get-go (unless you backed into a tree all by yourself, don't want it on CarFax, & don't mind the $2000 it wiil cost (vs increased rates on your premium). They will pursue the other ins co & the other driver......part of their job.
I had about $7k in work the last 6 months.......I have sev cars through Progressive......no increase in premium. First was a ticketed uninsured who T-boned wife in the C4 (he was also without license & 'undocumented'). Next was twister damage to the AMG......comprehensive......complete repaint.
Again........no increase......zero (0%) fault on your part (on sight police report sure helps).
Progressive drives to my business and gives me check next day.
If bodyshop finds more work is needed they call Progressive.........Progressive discusses/approves......writes them more money........till it's done right.
Is all your damage below the tail light?
If so that's incredibly lucky........that whole piece s/b replaced (yes it's reparable but that's bad enough for replace).......FYI the good body shop can pull it up on their parts computer but there is more to it than just the the polyU bumper......behind it is support that makes it rigid, brackets, and exhaust.
Another thought.......ordering replace bumper comes in euro config (no bumperette holes cut yet)......you might consider not putting those on......need pics, I have C4, Box and Turbo that way.
It's a hassle man.................hope you can get her back in form.....soon.
Really sorry for your situation. As bad as it is, it could have been worse. I once stopped at a Home Depot (in my old "M" Roadster) and parked far from the store so that I wouldn't get a door ding. When I came back 5 minutes later, there was a shopping cart (and Home Depot carts are big) in my driver door.
At least you know who did the damage and you won't be paying for the repair.
Oh gawd - that picture gave me a stomach ache! Good luck in getting it sorted out and done right. I'm in the same boat right now with my wife's Boxster S.
