(A friend of mine owns the shop at the end of the road across from the factory where the cars come FLYING from test drives...He actually expected to have one come through the front of the shop one day, he said the drivers were mad men, damn good drivers too!!!)

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

10 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

  • Rennlist: 1 discussions

0 evidence records excluded for query context · 0 excluded by outcome qualification · 0 adjusted by outcome qualification.

1 acknowledgements have no verified action link; they do not establish a repair result.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Picking up my 02 at the dealer tomorrow. Porsche was kind enough to put in a new engine because the one I had was defective. Is there anything I should know about breaking in the engine? Anything I should look out for? Any advice? Thank you. Will post pics soon.

POST 3Original post

Take a nice long drive keep the tach under 7K... after the car is warmed up, push the RPM's up nice and easy... don't worry too much. Long drives are the key. Good luck, Rob

POST 4Original post

vary your rpm and speed during first 400-500 mi - not use cruise control. Avoid going over 5000 rpm.

POST 5 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Defective? Like multiple RMS? - LVDELL Took it in for clutch repair. Was told that the clutch was "toast, down to the rivets". They called me the next day said the clutch was fine BUT the engine was bad. Apparently the crankshaft was set to low in the engine. No one had ever caught this before now. The car was certified so I got a new engine free of charge. Just don't want to damage the engine. Thanks for the advice!

POST 6Original post

Wow! That sounds big. Glad it worked out with the CPO. Enjoy the new engine.

Thanks for the replies! Have looked at the other posts as suggested.

POST 9Original post

Personally, I followed the break in suggestions in the owner's manual. After all, those guys did design and build the car.

POST 10Original post

Well lets look at how Porsche does it.....they put the engine on a dyno and make runs..... then they bolt the engine in the car and a guy jumps in it and drives it as hard as he can down the road to the track where he gives it a good couple of laps to make sure the thing is not going to just pop when you get it in your hot little hands ack in the USA. (A friend of mine owns the shop at the end of the road across from the factory where the cars come FLYING from test drives...He actually expected to have one come through the front of the shop one day, he said the drivers were mad men, damn good drivers too!!!) Enjoy it....just don't red line it for 1,000 miles......would also not take a trip from Ca to FL with Cruise Control set.....aside from that blow it out and have fun....
