Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

Suggestion

I think the biggest advantages come from changes that you probably don't want for a street car like running 100 octane.

Suggestion · Original poster

I mean, you could add additional injectors, ***** around with timing, maybe run a speed/density setup?

These are separate views of the same evidence. Frequency alone does not establish a fix, and these counts must not be added together.

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

9 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

0 evidence records excluded for query context · 0 excluded by outcome qualification · 0 adjusted by outcome qualification.

0 acknowledgements have no verified action link; they do not establish a repair result.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

I'm not sure wat the capabilities of the stock system are, but if it was to be replaced with a fully customisable race ecu, would there be more options and ways to extract power? I mean, you could add additional injectors, ***** around with timing, maybe run a speed/density setup? i dunno..i 'm just throwing idea's out there at random. Your thoughts?

POST 2Original post

Will never pass emissions, big deal on a street car, not such a big deal on a race car.

POST 3Original post

You could make it pass emissions. Two problems though. First a Motec starts at about $8k. Second, your ecu manages other aspects of your car (security, etc) that the Motec won't. Unless I'm mistaken you would also loose some of the real time safegaurds you have in the factory unit. Like adjustments for octane, etc. It's my understanding that most of the Grand Am guys manage their 996s with Motecs. I would but it's against PCA stock rules. Jim

POST 4Original post

I hear there's quite a bit of power to be had with the Motec in a racing enviroment. I won't quote the numbers but they were, shall we say, very impressive.

POST 5 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

hmm...at 8 grand..that is a bit cost prohibitive.

POST 6Original post

Dead, If you are really interested you should double check the cost. That's just the number I heard. Like I said, I can't do it in PCA stock so I haven't looked into it too much. I think the biggest advantages come from changes that you probably don't want for a street car like running 100 octane. Jim

POST 7 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

heheh.having a special 100 octane program thats switchable for going back to 94 for daily driving would be awsome. hey is it true that sunoco in the states stopped selling 94 octane at most of its pumps?

POST 9Original post

I will let you into a well know fact about race cars. If you change out your ECU be prepared to just open your wallet. That will be the least expensive part of the project.
