I edited the post, for some reason the site I used left out 3 of the options that the car had.

I'd search for people selling used wheels in good condition.

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

I just bought a Arizona 2001 Porsche 911 c4 cab. triple black, 19" chrome wheels, aero kit, 44,000 miles and a 100k mile warrenty out the door for $26,500. Wow I can't wait till the guy brings my car. It looks very nice, not to fond of the crazy wheels that are on it but I may upgrade.
This is my first Porsche, I have owned an Audi TT quattro turbo cab., 350z roadster, srt4 and evo when I was younger. I look forward to having the best brand out there. It will be hard to adjust but I am already in love after test driving several.
Now for the nitty gritty, It has chrome wheels which are staggered, they are ok.. So I need a vote should they stay or should they go?( I think I posted the pic correctly)
Next, I am good at searching and do not mind, but is there any extremely important threads that I should know about? I have read about all the crazies out their and their rms probs, but mods that are cheap/easy/free/interesting.
Finally, are there any other Porsche owners my age at around 25???
One last thought, I live in Nc and need a killer plate tag to put on, any Porsche related suggestions?
First off, congrats! Nice car, love black...
I vote GO & as far, far, far away from any Porsche ever again. Maybe on an Escalade or something like that, but they definetely don't belong on that beautiful P-Car. No offense, lol.
The first & most important thing you must change is the Rennlist approved clear side markers (or smoked/blacked since you have a black car). Those pumpkins have got to go. Next, you can paint your calipers red or yellow which seem to be the most popular, or any color you choose. Then, you'll find all kinds of random mods on here, like adding a spoiler switch, painting you center console to match the exterior or do alumalook, carbon fiber, alcantara, etc. The possibilities are endless & you get addicted... But before doing any of these cool DIYs, I say you look for some wheels.
Hard to find, but we are out there. I'm 19 & got my '02 996 soon after turning 18... So far I've met one guy that was like 22 (or something like that, he was in his early 20's for sure) at one of the universities I was attending that had a '99 996 with full factory aero, & on another forum a 20 year old with an '02 as well... So far, I'm the youngest I've met.
Well, anything Porsche related is pretty cliche, like "911 996," or "CARR3RA," "P0RSCH3," etc. Plus normal people usually won't get the whole "911 996" thing, they'll assume something stupid, like that you make $911,996 a year. But you could always try something completely original & that most normal people will actually understand. One that I saw on another forum & really liked was a Lambo with a plate that said "YSOFICR," & another that had "WHY TRY" or something like that.
Leia, welcome to Rennlist and Congrats on gettin getting a nice looking Cab.
The wheels HAVE to go!!! No question about it!
Also, it is hard to tell by the pics, but it looks like the rear wheels are the wrong offset for your cab. The C4 is a narrow body car, unlike the C4S which is a wide body car. Before you get other wheels ask here about correct widths and offsets for your car. We can keep you from making a BIG mistake and save you some $$$.
Mods: (after the wheels get replaced)
Harvest the pumpkins and install clear side markers
Aluminum Gauge Rings
Aluminum Pedals
I'll stop there for now.
There might be one other Rennlister that is your age. Just kidding, but I may not be too far off.
Nice introduction and thanks for posting the pics, even better since you posted them BEFORE you got the car!
That just shortened your "Newbie" status by 50 posts!
I really like these wheels, according to the previous buys they have sold them for as low as 640 for the set and I could reuse the tires that come with the rims(assuming they are in good condition).

Are you sure you wont kick me out with my ugly wheels?? lol
That actually sounds great, I will look up the thread and look forward to meeting people with the same interests. I look to meeting up with everyone!
I love those wheels too, almost scored a set for $750 locally, but was too slow. In hind sight I am not sure they are right for the car though... see what other say. the ones on the car cant stay though....
congrats and post some of your own pics once it in the driveway at home!!
Congratulations on the new car! Perfect timing for top down fun as the season is just starting. I concur with the sentiment that the wheels must go.
Enjoy it in good health and welcome to RL. Post pictures when you get it.
Congrats on the purchase. Youre going to love it! I just got mine less than a week ago and it's an amazing car.
I vote get rid of the rims. I dont like chrome wheels in general. But honestly go with what you want. if you like em, keep em. I'd search for people selling used wheels in good condition.
I'm around your age. I'm 23. Not too close location-wise tho.
Congratulations from me too! You'll absolutely love the car but I've got to say that I agree with the rest. Ditch the wheels and trade 'up'.
+1 on the pumpkin harvest too and don't worry, it really IS easy!
I think I did a damn fine job negotiating that price and take pride in it! I do not think the dealer knew it was awd, that would explain the price I think.
You may be right. To be fair, you should send them a check for an additional $3,000. I am sure they would do the same if they felt they had over charged you!
When you are driving around at the end of a hot summer day with the top down, just cruisin', cool night breeze..........that has got to be one of the sweetest ways to enjoy a cab!
Welcome to the "club"!
Pete
Those wheels are Escalade-bad! Budget for some Porsche rims and tires! You saved so much on the initial price anway.
Good luck with the pick-up, enjoy the car!
Damn Medtech, your avatar just continues to regress. This latest one looks like something out of the Terminator movies, after the "skin" was blown/burned off of Arnold's character!
I know you would have been disappointed if I didn't comment. Don't you have nay REAL pics of your car?
I have my first newb question to ask. Where in the world is the best of sticky. If we don't have one we need to make one for all the newb's that come around and are interested in the best topics like picking pumpkins/best oil/best exhaust/best mods. That would really help out us brand new to the Porsche game.
Like I said in another post. This was done for me by a friend on RL and I like it. It aint goin nowhere!
Ps. I do have better pics of my car, but I'm naked in all of them.
Eewww! That just made me throw up in my mouth a little!
I was going to offer to do an avatar pic for you, but I don't think I would have the stomach for it.
I got my car and I was very excited. Here is a list of options that I looked up:
09991 manufacture from the exclusive-programme
288 Headlight washer
288 996: Light washers
375 996: Color coded seat backs
375 Clutch lining without asbestos

I do not think there is anything special or exotic on it, but I am happy with it.
It has a Kenwood DDX7017 double din touch screen w/o nav. I am in the process of looking for the unit to make the navigation functional.
The exhaust does not look or sound stock, the others that I test drove were quiet compared to this one.Pics to follow my camera battery is dead.
The awfull wheels, look a little better in person but definitely not my cup of tea. They stick out about an inch and one tire is bald. I am going to order the 997 Turbo wheels off ebay, the cheap ones, they come to 1795 shipped for 19x8.5 57 and 19x11 et67 with factory tires, pilots I think. Sound like a good deal? I will hopefully get a couple of bucks out of my bling wheels and if not I got a spare set of wheels.
I ordered the clear side markers as well, so I am ready to go pumpkin picking.
The only bad is the air bag light is on, and whenever I drive it had I get a faint burning smell, not sure if it is oil/clutch/barkes yet.
A pic or 3....
I think I've seen those wheels for less than $1k from time to time on eBay. Also, might want to consider sticking with 18" - but up to you. I think those are some of the best looking wheels on a 996/997. I opted for a used set of Sport Designs, $1,200 shipped for OEMs - but it's all a matter of taste, options, etc.
As for tires, I think you have two options, personally -
1) High-priced Michelin Pilot Sport 2s (PS2s are not the same as PS Ribs, etc). These run almost $1,500 shipped from Tire Rack and are a VERY good tire.
2) Sumitomo HTR Z IIIs - lot's of great feedback on the boards on these, and a fraction of the cost. I haven't run them, but if I were on a budget, I wouldn't hesitate based on other's comments. $600 a set - insane!!!
There are other options, plenty - but I think those are the two good endpoints for reference.
