Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

I purchased the FFP inserts a week ago and installed a few days ago.

I run stock TT motor mounts in my race car with Wevo's semi-solid tranny mount.

I use the 997-GT3 short shifter (all metal) with 6-cup cables. I had the blue B & M short shifter in my 997 race car and it worked fine too.
Outcome qualification: Negation, uncertainty or missing explicit repair resolution overrides the raw extraction signal.

I used my Numeric shifter at the track this weekend for the first time.

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

Lots of shifter threads. Looking for the most up to date info on the best shifter. The use will be mostly track. The stock shifter works great just feels loose??? Doing motor mounts tomorrow which may help. Anyway from experience, which is the best. I not overly concerned about shortening the shift, just tightening up the mechanism.
Is replacing the cables necessary? At this place it looks like its down to a 997 or numeric shifter...
Thanks
I have the B&M shifter, it is very cool and works great but keep in mind while the throw is shorter, you have to be even smoother on the lever, or the gearbox is taking the hardness.
I love it though..
Aside of that first thing I'd recommend is to remove the stick handle and place something that will stay in place on the track, the stock version is just pushed in, and can come loose easily when you are driving on the track. I love my rennin aluminum short ****

you can tight it with screws and it is very tight, highly recommending it.
motor mounts, I have done them, I could not tell the difference actually may be harder to shift at the track for me. can't confirm for sure, but not worth upgrading for me. I have the RS mounts.
The key to improving shifting is by limiting excess transmission movement. Our
Transmission Mount Insert
does just that, and is an essential upgrade for a track vehicle.
Here's a recent review from our product thread in the 996 forum:
"Wow! what a difference after installing the FFP trans inserts.
Last year I put in a new 997 shifter and cables with aftermarket urethane/aluminum engine mounts (I forget who's product). I hardly noticed the difference though the rear felt a little tighter in the turns I still had a somewhat rubbery feeling shifter especially going to 1st or 3rd gear. I was fairly disappointed.
I purchased the FFP inserts a week ago and installed a few days ago. What a change up. There is some added vibration and slight gear whine but frankly I find it pleasing. The biggest change was the quality of the shift, much much better and I have a lot more confidence in engaging 3rd in the heat of battle than bouncing off the synchro's. The car feels so much more solid.
Two thumbs up, I am one happy customer!!
Cheers, Paul 2004 40th anniversary"
Another vote for the Numeric. A work of art in aluminum w stainless bearings and feels as good as it looks. They had a group buy on 6Speed for the shifter, lifetime cables and urethane tranny mounts awhile back.
It's the sum of all parts that create a better shifting 996 trans....
I run stock TT motor mounts in my race car with Wevo's semi-solid tranny mount. Quite a bit noisier than the OEM trans mount but a definite improvement in shifting.

I use the 997-GT3 short shifter (all metal) with 6-cup cables. I had the blue B & M short shifter in my 997 race car and it worked fine too. I think the cables are important as their plastic connectors on the OEM cables. I may switch Wevo's semi-solid motor mounts before my next race. It will be interesting to see if I notice a difference.

Here is my experience. Currently Numeric shifter and 996 cup cables.
The Numeric cables are worthless, caused $2500 in damage to a brand new $8k CMS transmission. 4 shops could not get them to work properly including truspeed, and Vision.
I had the 997.2 gt3 shifter, sold it to go with the Numeric. Hind-sight, I should have kept the GT3 shifter.
Wevo semi solid engine and trans mount.
Good luck.
