Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

IMS, Clutch and ROS changed a year ago at the same shop.
Leading evidence: 'Replace year ago at the same shop' (no explicit attributable resolution; this is a reported action or suggestion). Across 1 matching discussions, The most frequently discussed action is 'Check oil filter' (1 discussions). For that action, 0 discussions report a resolution and 0 report an unsuccessful attempt. No action has an explicit, attributable resolution report under the current rules. These are forum reports and suggestions, not a confirmed diagnosis.

Suggestion
Btw, have they dropped and checked the oil filter for any metal flakes?

Also I assume they checked for signs of oil and coolant intermix?

they quoted me 500 forthe repair but i think it will be way less diy
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

No worries at all. Range 1 is hitting the rev limiter (harmless) and range 2 is over rev (harmful). 560 is number of ignitions, not revolutions. The engine ignites 6 times in 2 crank revolutions.
Good to know, now just the rest of the PPI hehe They listed it as revolutions though.
It seems like a pretty solid car, just want to be sure before I get into it.
If you don't mind, does this look like a sold car and good buy to you? IMS, Clutch and ROS changed a year ago at the same shop.

thanks
Even 560 was no. of revolutions, at 7k rpm, that's only a few seconds
IMS done means bearing from LN engineering?
A few observations
1) one key only. Should you need another key, note it's about $350 including programming
2) No service records included?
3) engine compartment leak failed?
4) test drive suspension failed?
Yes the LN Engineering Bearing. Some maintenance and service records/receipts from the current owner of 2 years and partial from Carfax from first owner. Why someone doesn't keep this on ANY Porsche is beyond me.
Here are the details of the test, it was on the first page I didn't upload
No faults in system
Over revs: Range 1 / 560 revolutions (not sure what they mean)
No airbag activity
No signs of body repaint
Oil pan seeping
Bank 1 cam cover seeping
Bank 1 spark plug tubes seeping
Bank 2 oil scavage pump seeping
Front hood latch does not open
Rear Shocks seeping
Um, not sure what "no airbag activity" mean. I think all the oil seeping should be fixed eventually, probably all DIYable. The cam cover reseal will need cam holding tools though.
Rear shock leaking is a good opportunity to upgrade to m030 all around
i think they mean that theres no indication of deployment.
is the cam cover a diy or that needs to drop engine and the whole thing? are the tools expensive?
is this a car worth getting you think? seller wants 14k. i can do diy myself on a lot, but i hope there will be minimal. also need new tires but i was planning on using my 17" boxster s wheels that are on my 944 now with new tires.
I think cam cover can be done in situ but I would let someone who has actually done it chime in. The cam hold down tool is like a couple of hundred dollars but lots of folks frab their own by some using some scrap metal and bolts.
$14k sounds reasonable to me.
i think they quoted like 600 for the job. but its probably not urgent i would think. i'll go over it with them before i decide 100 percent on the car but its good to hear that it sounds like a good deal. its a 99 by the way.
need a more reliable dd than my now electrically challenged 944
but i dont drive much.
thanks ahsai.
Hopefully, the shop that did the PPI also gave you a rough estimate to fix the issues they found. Then maybe use that estimate to negotiate the asking price with the seller.
yeah they gave me an estimate. I'm going to try and negotiate a little bit more, but 14k is already lowered. but the new main things being cam cover $675 quote and rear shocks $1368. But I'm sure I can do the rear shocks myself for half that. Cam cover we'll see, but don't thinkt that's a pressing issue with my 3K miles a year
You're welcome. I thought the 944's are bullet proof?!
Regarding oil tube and cam cover leak, check out the thread here
http://www.renntech.org/forums/topic...-996-oil-leak/
Sounds like it would be difficult to do in situ.
Good luck and let us know how it goes.
Btw, have they dropped and checked the oil filter for any metal flakes? I know it has the imsb retrofit but that itself is no guarantee the engine is metal flake free....could be debris before the retrofit.
Also I assume they checked for signs of oil and coolant intermix? Also, did they check for overheating?
Not being able to open the trunk is a problem. As far as the cam leaks go, you can try replacing the 3 or4 bottom cam bolts one by one and goober them with sealant. I did this and the leaks didn't go away, but it reduced the leak from drips, to a weep.
The spark plug tube leaks are an easy DYI.
cool. yeah im not super worried about the camleak. sealing it up sounds like a good idea and i will get to it eventually. but the hood i need to fix. but seems like somewhat of a common issue and dont think it will be that hard to diy. they quoted me 500 forthe repair but i think it will be way less diy
also the owner just told me he just had the waterpump replaced.
They're hilariously easy to work on compared to a 944. If you're able to do any work yourself, this doesn't sound like a bad idea. Also, if you're shopping for mark 1 cars, a lot of people who know about these prefer the '99 to later ones. Do you have any pictures? Where are you located?
