Your price is reasonable, but this is a VERY VERY tough time to sell a high mile used Porsche.

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

15 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

I have a 1999 996 6 speed C2, 3 owners and pretty clean. It has a reman'd motor, doesn't leak a drop or burn anything, shifts great, etc. but no records from previous owners. 80k miles on the chassis. I'm seriously considering a GT3, and wondering how much I should sell the 996 for. It's currently advertised for $21.5k only on Craigslist as of today. I'd appreciate any input. Thanks

POST 2Original post

That seems like a good starting point. If you were selling it in the Fall, I'd be tempted. Dave

POST 3 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

I thought it was fair also, but I haven't gotten any inquiries, of course it's only been listed for a day... Anyway, I just bought GT3 suspension parts for it so I might have it in the fall! It probably makes the car less desirable for a large part of the population I would imagine but at least I'll enjoy it more. I'm thinking about taking it off the market I guess, we'll see. Thanks for the input.

POST 4Original post

seems really fair, I am in mine more than that (but it has the optional GT2 Wing )

POST 5Original post

how much more warranty do you have left on the reman motor?

POST 6Original post

I'm *actively* looking for a 99 with a reman motor over on the west coast. I've found two so far: car 1: silver on black, 77k miles, 10K miles on new motor, new clutch, new suspension struts (very low but not clear if hi performance) no options at all except HiFi. Claims service history, but only has it for the two years he's owned it. He's asking 23.5 car 2: black on black, 60K miles, 5K miles on new motor, new clutch and full brakes, other maintenance done recently, more options but still no LSD. He's willing to negotiate between 21 and 22 I really want to find a car with LSD, but whatever car I buy it *must* have a reman engine recently. I hope not to pay any more than $20K for whatever car I buy.

POST 7Original post

Ahmet's car has option 220 (LSD) and traction control. My biggest regret is not finding one with LSD, but I feel I got a good deal regardless. I can't really compare to the C2 diff, but riding in a GT3 you notice the diff grabbing and it makes a big difference IMO. I've read around 2 seconds on a 2min lap.

if it does have a DIFF on a 99 it will be so old and probably broken... you need to install a cup car diff so it has some reliability... and by the way... car #2 for $20K is a steal if he still has more than one year warranty on it... a c2 with a reman motor and and 1-2 year warranty with some good options is worth $25K (USD) minimum all day long...

POST 9Original post

So you figure 80K miles is enough to use up the clutches in the diff? If Ahmet is listening, I'd be interested in seeing some more pics, knowing more about the history. Other major maintenance, clutch, brakes, tires, miles on motor...things like that. I'd have to transport the car instead of driving it home, that will add a grand or two. POST 10 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

I have yet to decide if I want to sell the car, or how much I could get for it if I were to sell. On the other hand I just bought a Corvette also and parking is limited where I live. Thanks for the input guys.

POST 11Original post

i have my 99 c2 Guards red 6 speed with original 73k mile engine sold for 20k. The guy is coming to pick it up this week. I listed it 2 weeks ago for 21k. Your price sounds good. Maybe its the color?

POST 12Original post

Your price is reasonable, but this is a VERY VERY tough time to sell a high mile used Porsche. If you really want to move it fast you'll need to go $19-20K

POST 13Original post

if its a reman motor then its not high mileage at all.... how much warranty do you have left on the re-man motor?

POST 14 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

I do not have the records from the previous owners, the engine was manufactured in 2006 if I remember correctly. As such there's no existing warranty. I had somebody offer me a 1 year old Harley that sold for $36k new yesterday...

POST 15Original post

It was hard to see mine go, but it sold today for $20k. 99 c2 6 speed with 73k miles. GR with Savannah interior. Your price is in line. As summer gets closer you will have it sold. Time for me to start looking for a TT
