Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

Suggestion
If you leave it as is the engine controller will strive to adjust the fueling for that bank to try to bring the #2 O2 sensor's reading into an acceptable range.

Also, don't waste your time with a Salvage yard, it is against the law to sell used Cats.

I have a set of cargraphics mufflers (purchased used off of rennlist) and the stock headers.

These are separate views of the same evidence. Frequency alone does not establish a fix, and these counts must not be added together.

One option is to repair your factory cats - they seem to fail the same way which is not difficult to repair and keeps your car Smog Legal if you're in CA.
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

Had a CEL come on last night. My dealer pulled the codes this morning for free. Looks like I have a failed cat.
What are my options. I passed smog recently. Now there is rattling in one cat and a CEL code. I don't have to pass smog for another 2 years.
Bypass? Run it as is?
Aaron
You have several options but the best one is to probably replace the damaged/defective converter. I'd opt for a stock/factory one though if you can find one from a salvage yard that's a cheaper (possibly) solution.
If you run a bypass you are in violation of emissions laws. I know some do not care but I thought I'd mention this.
If you leave it as is the engine controller will strive to adjust the fueling for that bank to try to bring the #2 O2 sensor's reading into an acceptable range.
This can result in less than optimum fueling for that bank. The engine will almost certainly under perform and that bank might over time suffer extra/accelerated wear from the less than optimum fueling.
Sincerely,
Macster.
Options. FVD appears to be the obvious choice

Both! I haven't put it on our dyno yet but it feels like another 20+ hp, even my wife could tell.
I have a set of cargraphics mufflers (purchased used off of rennlist) and the stock headers. The sound it killer!!! At around 3,000 RPM's it makes a great note! not loud driving on the street but awesome when at WOT. At the track a few weeks ago I had a few people (GT3 owners) ask me about it. One of our techs took some video and photos but his computer crashed.
No lie I haven't turned on the radio since I installed it.
I have a 2003 996 C2 and had my cats fail as well. I used Fabspeed Sport Cats and have had great success with them. Also replaced my Factory Sport Mufflers with Fabspeed.
Also, don't waste your time with a Salvage yard, it is against the law to sell used Cats.
Have either of you noticed the lag issue referred to in this post:

I asked Joey at Fabspeed about it but after an initial promise to look into their progress on the issue he never got back to me. I've heard lots of positive feedback about Fabspeed, and am considering this mod but want to be sure about it. q
I got lucky with my '02. Both cats failed just before the 8 year Federal emissions system warranty expired. My cats failed about 6 months apart, both times while I was running DE's.
Against the law to sell used cats? Where do you live?

Yeah, my cold may be your hot these days. I won't tell you what the temp is today...
It really is a great mod. I haven't had the check engine light come on once, and the o2 sensors look normal.
