Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Hi folks. The new guy here has a question. I own a 2002 C4S with triptronic. When the car shifts into 2nd i always get a noticable hesitation during acceleration. This happens in auto and manual mode and only in 2nd. Throttle position makes no difference. It feels like a miss but only happens once , not several times in a row. Its getting annoying. Ideas\? Oh, it doesnt happen when the motor is cold...Thanks

The 2nd gear problem is well documented with the manual. This is the first I've heard of a tip with a 2nd gear problem. Maybe someone else can help.

I've never heard of it associated with either transmission. Would you post a link to one or more previous threads?

POST 4Original post

Search "2nd gear pop out" for manual trans For auto, how is the fluid level, is it fresh?

POST 5Original post

Watch the indicator as you shift - the map automatically starts out in 2nd. The hesitation you are feeling is because the car is shifting to 1st for a brief moment (very brief) and then back up to 2nd. I always wondered what caused the hesitation I felt until I watched the gear indicators, and voila. There is no fix - but I have always wondered if one of those tcu reflashes would help.

Here is Ferd trying a fix. Mine is a cold issue though. No problem when warm. https://rennlist.com/forums/996-foru...ighlight=shift
