Suggestion · Original poster

The reason the transmission is out is to replace the transmission mount.

When the Gremlins get out

Suggestion

Replacing the transmission mount on a manual (or older tips) with the pressed in mount is no easy task unless you have access to a shop press and a band saw.

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

10 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

I don't believe it! I wasn't getting any grinding noises or anything indicating this problem was there. I did notice a bit of grease or oil leakage on that side but didn't think too much about it. Anyways still looking for that very intermittent "clunk" when I drive off... Maybe I found it. I was thinking it might have been the flywheel... I hope not now. The reason the transmission is out is to replace the transmission mount. Now While I'm in there I might go all out and do a few more things.... Wow.......

POST 2Original post

Thats strange... I dont understand how that can happen unless the C-clip is missing on the other end. You could probably source a good second hand unit.

POST 4Original post

Lots you could change now that you've gone this far - Clutch? IMS, RMS, AOS ...

POST 6 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

I've had another good look at this... That cap comes off and the cv joint inside is fine. Nothing in there has tried to get out. I think the damage was done that last time this transmission was out. I've owned the car for a little over a year now, not sure what was done to it before me..... I'm thinking the clutch though would have been done by some gorillas hence the damage to the cap. I'm thinking AOS/ IMS/ bearing/ RMS/ and ......Anyone? I'm pretty sure the clutch will be fine... I'll have a look at it in the morning.

POST 7Original post

Yeah, I would do the IMS bearing even if you have to put it on a credit card.

POST 8Original post

Is it a big job to replace the transmission mounts? And that looks bad, hopefully mine does not look like that when I do my transmission mounts.

POST 9Original post

is some piece of the gearing flying around in the trans that cut that up? yikes

POST 10Original post

I was thinking along the same lines that someone wasn't too careful last time they dropped the engine/trans. Replacing the transmission mount on a manual (or older tips) with the pressed in mount is no easy task unless you have access to a shop press and a band saw.
