Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

11 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

0 evidence records excluded for query context · 0 excluded by outcome qualification · 0 adjusted by outcome qualification.

0 acknowledgements have no verified action link; they do not establish a repair result.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

I just got my 996 today. There is a bit of a leak on the left side of the engine. When it was inspected they said that there was a cam tower leak. Is this something that is fixable DIY? Does it need to be fixed? Only a drop or two. Car hasn't been used very much by the previous owner (700 miles in 2 yrs). Will it get better or worse with more driving.

POST 2Original post

pics?... might be just the cam solenoid cover, a bit of sealant and your good.

POST 3Original post

I'm impressed Ferdinand, about the knowledge you have regarding our Porsches. You have been a real asset to this forum.

POST 5 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Here is a picture of the underside. Hard to tell where the oil is coming from but it looks like the outer part of the engine.

POST 6Original post

Not from a spark plug tube. Could be the cam advance solenoid or the scavenger pump.

POST 7Original post

me thinks the AOS is up there somewhere.... bellows? sorry the pic is a little confusing to me today oil pan cover - cool

POST 8Original post

+1, AOS is up there, cam solenoid cover, right next to it is the cam position sensor as well..... Im betting on AOS.

POST 11Original post

I've recommended this before. Clean the area as best you can at a car wash by sticking the wand under there. Then watching it for a few days will give you an idea how bad the leak actually is. You'll be in a better position to decide what to do.
