Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

Leading evidence: 'Clean radiators' (no explicit attributable resolution; this is a reported action or suggestion). Across 1 matching discussions, The most frequently discussed action is 'Check which generation the coolant cap in your car is' (1 discussions). For that action, 0 discussions report a resolution and 0 report an unsuccessful attempt. No action has an explicit, attributable resolution report under the current rules. These are forum reports and suggestions, not a confirmed diagnosis.

I installed 99porsche911 fan mod just after i got the car few yrs ago- it's super easy.

As Tim linked, it's a really good idea to clean these out on any used car.

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

Just wanted to verify my operating temp was correct. It's usually right around the 180 mark (middle of the 4 dashes). However, yesterday in bumper to bumper traffic, 95 degree heat and ac on medium it crept to a 12 oclock position. I assume this is normal, and it didn't go any higher, but wanted to double check. It started going back toward the 180 mark as traffic let up.
A year from now when you look back on these questions, you are going to laugh at yourself. Right now we all are
Just kidding man, that's normal opration - fans run on low speed until temp is up, then pop into high for max cooling as needed. You might want to pull the front end off and check for debris between the radiators and a/c condensors - let me know if you want a link for a DIY its a good job to get comfortable working on your new car
There are posts on here where folks have gone in and cleaned-out their front radiators after a few years - amazing to see how much cr@p collects in there.
Might be a good spring cleaning option if you have the time.
The temp you mentioned wasn't an issue though - well within spec.
cool thx
haha yeah I know I will. I search around, but like to verify by asking again. I'll hunt for leaves and debris too.
Yeah I saw some of those. I'll have to do that just to check if anythings in there. I saw a post about someone finding a dead squirrel
You should also check which generation the coolant cap in your car is. I just changed mine from a 996.XXX.00 to a 996.XXX.03 on Friday because I saw leak marks on my tank. I saw Fabspeed's 997.2 C2S at Hershey this past weekend with the same newer part number. Noticed better temp control right away.
The targeted coolant temperature for the 996 is 90C and in reality, it will run slightly above that at highway speeds. Slower, around town driving may raise the temperature to as high as 105 -110C
The high speed radiator fans do not come on just because the A/c is on. High speed fan operation is determined by pressure in the A/C and/or coolant temperature and come on at around 105C.
Coolant cap is not your problem. Your coolant temperatures are what every other stock 996 experiences. If you want consistant low temperatures, you will have to run the fans on high while driving around town.
I'm in Honolulu where it's never really hot- in 80's most all the time, some days it gets to 90 -not much hotter- but traffic is terrible- they're is always traffic. Radiators are clean, newer cap. I installed 99porsche911 fan mod just after i got the car few yrs ago- it's super easy. Temp with fan switch on is right on right side of 0 in 180 in stop/go traffic, with switch off it runs quite a bit to right of the 0 about half way to next line. Soon as car is warmed up and i hit traffic, i put fan switch on. Try it, it works.
I dont mind about the temp being there, I just wanted to make sure it's correct. I never plan to really track the car - I may do a DE or an AutoX at some point. The manual is just so far away in the glove box that I figured I'd ask here instead
FWIW, My needle does not go past the right side of "0" during our Northeast Summer days during stop and go traffic with AC. It did before I cleaned the radiators. My fan kicks in when the needle is on the right side of the "0."
When your needle is at the right side of the 0 in 180 your coolant temperature is around 215F which is when the high speed fans are programmed to turn on.
Your car will be fine. I drove my car around without problems for over a year before I figured out that one of the radiator fans was only operating on "low".
+1 Mine is the same way. Even with AC off in 90 degree weather high speed fans don't kick in until the need hits the top right corner of the "0" (in stop and go traffic). Then it cools back down. I did just clean out my radiators a month ago.
+1 - a lot of sand in mine, along with the normal debris...
I too have not tried the new search function, a bit afraid it might might launch me into the twilight zone
Red, I was thinking the same thing.... thought Ed already lived in the Twilight Zone!
Ed, that only confirms that you live in the Twilight Zone, because the Twilight Zone is located equidistant between a rock and a hard place!
Glad you finally were able to unload.... uhmm, I mean.... sell the GT2 wing!
