I wouldn't recommend the upgrade if you want your car to be capable of laid-back cruising over distances.

But if you like that 'driver involvement' thing, it's worth a look when it's time to replace your OE mounts.

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

9 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Here's some fresh meat for the mod-haters I drove my car last night with the new mounts and I was really impressed. The short review looks like this: As everyone says, the car feels strikingly more of-a-piece, and shifting is definitely improved. The result is not harsh at all, but the car has much more edge, for lack of a better word. Two surprises: I thought for some reason that the added vibration from harder mounts would occur at idle. In fact, there was hardly any difference there. However, there is a noticeable 'tingle' throughout the rev range at any speed. I doubt I'll notice it after a week or two and I don't mind it anyway, but it's not what I expected. And the second surprise was that I am able to get much smoother launches. I guess my old mounts were toast and stuff was twisting and bucking back there when I tipped in and released the clutch from a stop. I thought it was me not adapting to Porsches. But now, it rolls off without any fuss at all and I have a much easier time calibrating the throttle to be smooth. I wouldn't recommend the upgrade if you want your car to be capable of laid-back cruising over distances. But if you like that 'driver involvement' thing, it's worth a look when it's time to replace your OE mounts. Thanks to all for your advice on my earlier thread. The Rennsport mounts were the right call for me.

POST 2Original post

COOL - I swapped motor and tranny mounts first week I owned the 86 so I would not have a chance to get used to the sloppy stock ones, I love rigid mounts!! what did they set you back, easy install right.

POST 3 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Got the kit from Carnewal, 295 Euros. They actually delivered them here faster than I could have put together the pieces from the local Porsche parts system. I didn't install them myself, but I think it's very straightforward.

POST 4Original post

IIRC there is one big nut on bottom and a couple bolts to hold them in place. The 86' was simple but not easy due to space constraints on the passenger side... still only took maybe 1/2 hour for both. Right on Bruce! Put the power to the wheels!

POST 5Original post

That's good to hear Bruce. Would you say that the drivetrain slop or movement from the softer mounts has been eliminated with the new solid mounts?

POST 6 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

The RS mounts aren't solid, just a lot harder than stock. And to answer your question, yes, absolutely. By comparison, at least on my car, it felt like the engine was flopping around at the end of a rope compared to how it feels now. What's hard to put words to is the holistic effect. Butt dyno wise, I could convince a lay person that the car was more powerful now. It pulls away from a stop with more authority, shifts more smartly, and you 'hear' the engine more acutely because you can also feel it.

POST 7Original post

This sounds like a great stocking stuffer.........in my stocking that is. Merry Xmas to me! Thanks for the thoughts and opinion Bruce!

POST 8 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Dude, if that's your car in the avatar, I wouldn't give it a second thought. Once you've done it, you'll want to come to Canada just to give me a hug.

Yup that's me....how long of a drive is it from Indy to Canuckland? I got the X74 from Gert and I think the mounts would be great compliment to the car.
