I know that you can disconnect the batteries to temporarily clear the CEL but I never did this.

Suggestion

Some years ago I was advised that the easiest way to temporarily disable TC/VSC on my '01 F/awd RX300 was to disconnect the MAF/IAT module with the engine idling, the engine would die, reconnect the MAF/IAT module, restart the RX and be on my way.

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

6 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

  • Rennlist: 1 discussions

0 evidence records excluded for query context · 0 excluded by outcome qualification · 0 adjusted by outcome qualification.

0 acknowledgements have no verified action link; they do not establish a repair result.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Let me give some background to this CEL issue to better understand what changed and could have triggered the CEL. Current events. 1) It's been raining for 2 weeks straight and very humid. Some days very hard. 2) Last Sunday night my wife gets something out of the 911 and forgets to close the door leaving the dome lights running. 3) I yank out the LoJack system 2 weeks ago. ________________________________________________________________ Monday morning --> I start the car and it idles hard for maybe 5-10 seconds and then the CEL comes on solid yellow. ________________________________________________________________ Tuesday morning --> I turned the AC on and drive the car to drop my girl off at daycare. Only to return to start the car and No CEL. My take on this is the car was low on charge and caused it to idle rough which lead to CEL. or The humidity could have caused the CEL. Has something like this happened to anyone else on this board? I know that you can disconnect the batteries to temporarily clear the CEL but I never did this.

POST 2 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

forgot to mention that I have an 04 Anniversary Edition.

POST 3Original post

Read the stored codes. Free to do if you borrow a code reader.

POST 4Original post

I would say it could be a coil pack(s) or stuck lifter.

POST 5Original post

A totally DEAD battery will result on a total mind-wipe of all volatile engine control parameters. A marginal battery maybe only results partial loss of volatile parameters. I wouldn't at all be surprised to see a self-healing CEL. On the other hand the same thing, same sequence, might occur with an intermittent electrical connnection. Case in point... Some years ago I was advised that the easiest way to temporarily disable TC/VSC on my '01 F/awd RX300 was to disconnect the MAF/IAT module with the engine idling, the engine would die, reconnect the MAF/IAT module, restart the RX and be on my way. I would have a CEL/VSC/TC indication for the new few drive cycles. Years later Toyota got around to using a PB to disable TC...VSC.

POST 6Original post

I get a CEL once in a while on a foggy damp night. It's usually P1118 I reset it with a code reader and I don't see it again for 600 miles or so. You need a code reader so you can read the codes and erase them as necessary. Take the guess work out and get a code reader!!
