Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

11 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

0 evidence records excluded for query context · 0 excluded by outcome qualification · 0 adjusted by outcome qualification.

0 acknowledgements have no verified action link; they do not establish a repair result.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

OK, so I was doing my 2nd oil change since I bought the car a year ago and while I was staring at the bottom of the motor waiting for the oil to finish draining I saw what looked like the end of a drain tube toward the back of the motor. Well when I touched the piece it turned out to be a loose rubber grommet or bushing of some type just floating around back there. There were several service visits last fall right after I bought the car where it could have been not reinstalled and dropped down the back of the motor??: coolant tank let go (car was under warranty but NOT covered - really pissed me off that they called the coolant tank a wear and tear item!), then later the MAF sensor went bad..... had a new air and fuel filter put in as well with that visit. Did a search on the part# and can't seem to find it online. It is 1" tall, 1.5" wide at the wide lip end. Part# 999 703 678 40 Crappy pic attached. So I don't have to get chastised I have enclosed a pic of the car as well: 2001 C2 Cab, Black & Gray w/supple.... mmmmm.

POST 3Original post

Looks like an airbox mounting grommet. Fits in the body, and the posts from the airbox mount into them. Look just to the right of the oil filler tube. Be nice; this was a 'before' cleaning pic

POST 4Original post

goes under the airbox right side, goes in a hole(of the body of the car) skinny side first. you must take out the airbox to reinstall it. a spike from the airbox (air filter is in the airbox)fits in it.Hope this helps.I found mine on the garage floor after doing my first oil change and air filter.

POST 7Original post

OK - mystery solved - back to "off topic" Welcome in Oregon! Nice looking cab! Is it Black/Savanna? Tip or 6 speed?

POST 8Original post

"Be nice; this was a 'before' cleaning pic " Oh it's before cleaning! I was getting ready to rip into you for having such a gross and filthy engine

POST 9 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Car was from Oregon, now it in the SF Bay Area. It's Black with 6-speed.

POST 10 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Oh, and thanks for the part identification. So I guess the mechanic 'forgot' to put it back in when doing the filter? Pretty lame.

POST 11Original post

+1 for lame +2 for super simple to take the airbox out and put the part back (under 5 minutes, plus you have the missing part!)
