Mine was installed by the dealer, thought not when I owned the car.

Suggestion
the Porsche Sport Exhaust or PSE has a valve to change the loudness of the exhaust.
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

Hi
I have a question, someone needs to educate me on this please
Ok, I been looking at some exhaust system OEM sport & aftermarket. The thing I am not too sure about is on some exhaust there is a valve/actuator I see this on EOM ones, and Fabspeed does not
What is this valve do?
Fabspeed also mention that the warrantty is retain how can that be?
the Porsche Sport Exhaust or PSE has a valve to change the loudness of the exhaust. The Fabspeed retains the Porsche warranty b/c it is a cat back system.
The valve is part of the PSE, what this does is give you the option of turning this valve on or off, for the desired loudness.I do not know off any after market system that does this.I LOVE my PSE and feel its one of the best sounds around, tho this is my taste. GHL and Fabspeed make a great sounding system. If you do a search on this forum , you will find sound clips of all of them..good luck and let us know which one you go with.
oh ok so that is what the valve is for.
So id the Fabspeed system a straight through design, but the outlet/inlet is on the same side of the can.
Maybe it's a baffle design
TIA
The Fabspeed has baffle inside the cans. Helps with sound, performance, and overall design. The PSE system does not sound as good as Fabspeed in my opinion. BTW I have Fabspeed Mufflers instock on special price. PM me...
To preserve the warranty, does the Fabspeed have to be installed by a certified installer? Would this be the local Porsche dealer? And, how much would one expect to spend for the upgrade (installed)?
The early 996 wasn't "switchable", so PSE was on all the time......
I had a group buy on here a few months back, I've been itching to do an other but didn't know if I would get more than 5 to make it great..... Last time I was able to offer them at a savings of around $200.00 off per set..... GHL
-Eli
Come on now..... Are you telling us that Brian or Jeff would pull something like that without taking into consideration their vendors? That's pretty low DJ.....
-Eli
I have the GHL louds and they were the SSSSStuff "you know" and I know that you would be VERY happy with a set.... Passed CA smog check with them on
-Eli
I vote Fabspeed. Mine was installed by the dealer, thought not when I owned the car. Same dealer sold me the car used.
Per the warranty, it really comes down to the dealer. Also, for normally aspirated cars, changing the exhaust does very little -- as long as its catback -- apart from making the car sound better. In a turbo charged car like a B5 S4, mitsu or WRX, a cat back exhaust can actually reduce the back pressure in combo with a K&N air filter, to give you a little more power as the turbo has to work with less back pressure but also put more strain on the stock parts, in theory. So, as it was described to me, this is why some other vendors are pretty picky about aftermarket parts on their cars.
Fabs are throaty. PSE has more bark. I had the Fabs on my cab for a long time but couldn't resist the PSE sound everytime I heard it on someone else's car... so I switched.
No electronics so the valves are inoperable. You can't go wrong with either since exhausts are so subjective, however, PSE is
intoxicating!
Something that I pondered was to modify (get a muffler shop to gut it, or something) my stock exhaust, but I never got around to it and finally just went with PSE. Well, now the car is sold with the PSE, so I have a pair of standard mufflers (no tips) sitting in the garage.
Free to anyone who wants to come by and pick them up (CA SF Bay Area), as I think they might only be worth about $20 on ebay and that's not really worth the hassle.
They're from my 99 996 and should fit on any 996. Email me ccasey345 at gmail.com if you're interested.
FYI Eli, Brian and Jeff at GHL sell direct all the time. Their facility is close to ours, they sell retail all day long. That is why we have never advertised the exhaust on here as you can buy GHL direct with your "Rennlist" discount at like $800. They prefer to sell direct as they have a on going beef with Fabspeed...Yes I am spreading Trumors. I tested the GHL exhaust. Like Fabspeed better. GHL was to quiet for my tastes.
Back to topic. Fabspeed is my pick. I am switch to Fabspeed from my SuperSprint. Better fitment, sound, and price. We are selling the Fabspeed without tips and with tips for a SPECIAL price if you PM me. Here is a good sound clip of the exhaust -

Compare that to the ULTRA expensive exhaust of Kreissieg that is $8600-

As far as warranty. It would not matter if the owner of Porsche put the exhaust on. With warranty it always goes dealership to dealership. They all play by there own rules. Usually they wont care as it is just the mufflers after the cat. But definitely ask.

Did you get a chance to work with the GHL louds? What year did you test them on..... <thinking>.....
-Eli
sorry for the hasty post...
No I did not run the GHL louds. I ran their GHL system on my 996 3.4L. They told me, if it is not loud enough, we can make it louder. So never took that offer. I wanted to try Fabspeed as it was better for me. I have also run B&B (dont like) and SuperSprint (love it but to expensive). All of our exhaust are here and sound clips are usually attached with pictures -

I didn't take it that way at all.....
I just wanted to know if you were refering to the GHL 99-01 quiet or louds. I have the louds on mine right now and they are Awsome! Brian was right, that was his recommendation.....
-Eli
I think when it come up to exhaust that its more of a preference to sound and cost. IMO they all are quality products, but the PSE is a notch above because of OE fitment. The question you have to ask yourself is it worth the extra $500-800. I have the GHL quiter version and I am very satisfied with them. They make a nice roar when I lay in on the throttle and does not have any resonance at low speed driving. It suits my taste just right. You should see if there are any local members who you can meet to hear each kind of exhaust to make your final decission.
Jet,
You're so close to me it's not even funny.....
The fitment is the same but the real advantage is when you have the switch installed, you can full control at the push of a button...
The PSE has a valve that can switch between loud or quiet. This is an electronic switch which activates the valves which makes the exhaust pass a long path way for quiet operation or a shorter one for the sound. It is rather expensive to instal this switch as it take some time to do. Most people don't install it and leave it loud all of the time. I'm still think the PSE has a better look to the brackets and just has a slightly better quality look to them. That is the reason I say fitment is slightly better. The Fabspeed and GHL are still high quality units.
