Last time I got a bunch of rubber on my car from the track, I used the clay bar which is a sure shot to get it off but requires a bit more effort.

Suggestion

nu finish car polish (polymer "wax") will easily remove the rubber, and also reseal the paint....i use it after track days in-between full wash/wax, and it removes the marks with no hard rubbing....i liked this option better than other options because it doesn't strip the wax already on the car...

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

17 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

So I know its not a 996 and I know its not a technical Q but I searcha little and thought there are a lot of you guys that keep your cars pretty clean. Sunday washing I notice that those bits that were hitting me while on the ars of the car in front of me in the turns left marks.... I have rubber "skid marks" (for lack of a better term) all over the place....front, hood, roof, winshield, lights I used to have some 3M adhiesive remover but it dried up over the last 20 years and I need something for this job. I am pretty much looking for something I dont have to spend $40 on...maybe someone has a simple solution. anyhow, thanks for your advice and postings....need to clean her up once in a while, after all I only have a few days of sun in this area before the rain comes back....

POST 2Original post

Just about any "Bug & Tar" remover will take the marks off with very little effort.

POST 3Original post

POST 4Original post

I have had pretty good success with Turtle Wax Bug & Tar remover.

POST 5Original post

+1 on the "nu finish" car polish. Does a good job of removing bugs, tar, rubber marks, etc.

POST 6Original post

WD-40 works well & unlike Bug & Tar remover it is good for your paint & I bet you have it in stock.

POST 7Original post

Ed: Products mentioned above work great. Another idea, while you're already putting the energy into it is to use one of the synthetic clay bar products...pulls about everything off of all exterior surfaces & leaves it squeaky clean. Hit it with some gel wax & go.

POST 9Original post

Ed, Mothers makes a track rubber remover in spray bottle. However, I think you will have to order online. There was a thread a while back inthe GT3 forum discussing different products. Im still using WD-40 on a micro-fiber towel. Does the trick...

POST 10 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Thanks guys, I actually tried WD-40 and it didn't seem to work, I will get some nu-finish and try the wd40 again. Wd40 is a great cleaner I use it all the time as a cleaner - the strangest use I have found is the SS apliances esp the range hood. Takes off the grease and fingerprints instantly

POST 11Original post

Ed, Try some GooGone. Available at Freddies in a spray Gel. As with all this stuff "test in a small area first". But I have found this stuff dissolves most any gluey substance - old tape residue - melted candy (halloween) on the Audi, etc. I just bought some - if you want to try it stop by (PM me) and I will share & save you the $3 to test it.

POST 12Original post

Methyl Hydrate. Works great, harmless on the finish, and inexpensive. You can pour the remainder in your tank in the winter months to absorb moisture! Cheers

POST 13Original post

wd-40 works well, stoner xenit is the ultimate anti-adhesive but is STRONG, optimum Power Clean is good for taking off those things. Last time I got a bunch of rubber on my car from the track, I used the clay bar which is a sure shot to get it off but requires a bit more effort.

POST 15Original post

A clay bar will take rubber skid marks off. If that fails steel wool or 80 grit sandpaper also works.
