Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

What i quickly learned was that the more it sat (say for a week or so) the more it ran poorly.
Leading evidence: 'Run poorly' (no explicit attributable resolution; this is a reported action or suggestion). Across 1 matching discussions, The most frequently discussed action is 'Replace filters, etc..) were/are no more than our cars' (1 discussions). For that action, 0 discussions report a resolution and 0 report an unsuccessful attempt. No action has an explicit, attributable resolution report under the current rules. These are forum reports and suggestions, not a confirmed diagnosis.

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

i know this sounds like a crazy question, but has anyone ever tried using a ferrari 308 or 328 as a daily driver like we mostly do with our 996s? i've wondered if they are nearly as friendly day to day. i suspect they are WAY more delicate, and would require more maintenance. i just figured some of you guys have given this fantasy a try.
An Aston Martin is more reasonable as a DD. Any car is a DD, it all depends on the cash flow you got and what you are willing to put up with comfort wise if money is not a problem!
I have talked to a few F owners and no... they tend to break alot I was told. Kinda like an TVR 280i. In fact the one I spoke with was scared to take his 308 from erie to pittsburgh....
AND when I went to the pittsburgh vintage GP.. A few f cars were broken down and they were 308's.. One I remember was spewing collent everywhere
What I have heard the maintenance on these older versions are $$$
I hardly see these driving around in the Hwy/Streets. Usually at car show events in the neighborhood.
I see more 911 owners driving theirs (as I do).
My uncle used to drive a Ferrari Dino. I think it was a 306? It was an early 70's model. This was back in the late 80's. He lived in Los Angeles and it was his DD. Didn't even have door locks. Not so practical, broke a lot and cost a fortune to fix. It's really in a different world from P cars. He drove a 356 cab as his DD before that and it was much more practical!
Have you ever tried to actually get into a Ferrari 308 or 328? I'm 6'4" and it's a really tight fit. I could never drive that thing every day. I've heard they had to modify the Magnum PI Ferrari specifically so Tom Selleck could drive it since he's tall.
For a DD, I would go for a MB SL or Jag XK. Porsche 911 is probably next on the list, but there is a big gap in comfort between the MB and Jag, and the Porsche.
That said, neither of those cars is much fun to drive.
I have enjoyed driving both 328s and a 355 over the years. A Testarossa I drove in the late 1990s was quite memorable. But all of these cars required compromises that you just would not want to endure on a daily basis unless your commute is a few miles on the PCH during non-rush hour.
It is generally accepted that the 360 was the first 'practical' Ferrari that could be driven on a regular basis in terms of both reliability and creature comforts like HVAC.
you can't say Porsches aren't as comfortable as any MB. I like it when it's said about pcars that they're "perfectly comfortable without being overstuffed in any way." You can't say that about MB or Jag.
Before the 360 the Ferrari's are really very disappointing, soft top is manual, ride is bone jarring hard and because it has no power steering it's a bitch to park!
I ended up going with the 360 spider which is awesome... until the warranty runs out
Even with the warranty if your headers crack (which is common at the welds) the whole damn engine has to be pulled out, the tranny went twice on mine and costs a fortune to fix (+ lots of the labour is not covered by warranty), not to mention it's real hard to find an indy shop which actually knows what there doing so ya end up always paying the over inflated dealer prices... they got ya over a barrel and they know it...
Don't get me wrong, love Ferrari but with the condition of the roads a F as a dd it's just to high in maintenance costs.
Porsche found a way to engineer the best of both worlds... street and track
Now if only they could make it sound like an Ferrari
Sid.
A friend of mine has an F430 Spyder with a proper 6 speed manual, Terrific car to drive but since he has owned it that car has spent months at the dealer for all kinds of issues.
It's become a joke.
Don't get me wrong, I love Ferrari's but I can live with out the drama of owning one.
Except maybe for a 246 Dino, just something about that car!
you having "issues"
I gotta get you set up...dude mine shifts amazing...I mean A - MAZE - ZING!!
right now I have a complete shifter on the bench I am building for a restore and it will have all my goodies in it. I can tell you what to do...
BTW I have spare couplers on the shelf now, I am selling as "exchange" units...then the shift tower comes out...pull the thing apart and grind the lever so it slides smoothly in the cradle piece, notch the housing, new pin and the spring set up on...I have a couple "gates" made but no tabs yet...the gate is a real PITA to make and I am thinking of an easier way to deal with that part.
but seriously, its amazing when done...I drive quite a few 915's and I cant even imagine driving one with the stock shifter anymore - they are just BAD
lastly, swap out the oil for the Kendall Hypoid - WOW!!!!
I drove a Mondial T (basically a 348 2+2) as a DD for 3 years before the P-cars. What i quickly learned was that the more it sat (say for a week or so) the more it ran poorly. However, in 20+ K miles, never had a breakdown except a starter that was going bad. New one was $800. Can't say that about my 996 as I am on my 2nd engine. The car did not require any more maintenance than the 996; just needed to be driven. BTW all wearable parts (brakes rotors, pads, plugs, oil changes, filters, etc..) were/are no more than our cars. The only thing I would say in conclusion is that build quality was slightly inferior - but not that much.
A couple of years ago, a friend was shopping for a 911, when he stumbled on a slightly used 308. The mileage was low, the PO was a TV celebrity who had done an excellent job of maintaining it at the Newport Beach Dealer. The price was in the low $30k which was his price range
. He bought the car and for the first couple of months he had a blast
Then small things started to fail, first the A/C which cost $2K to fix. Then issues started with the electrical system, and the final straw was a leak in the exhaust system which required removing the entire engine
. He sold the car without fixing the exhaust system for less then $20K
. He now drives an early 80s 928 5 speed
. I understand that this is not out of the ordinary
20 year old P-cars are a little easier to maintain
fixed it for ya, lol.
I drove a rare fiberglass bodied 308 years ago on the freeway. Very rough riding, lots of rattles and virtually no sound deadening. It had a loud constant exhaust drone that made communication with you passenger impossible. Actually I was glad the drive was fairly short.
