Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

6 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

I am putting the final touch to the GPS in lower cubby mod that somebody posted ~3 weeks ago and bought an ABS sheet made by Metra ( http://www.sonicelectronix.com/item_...9-00-9031.html ) to cut the custom trim piece that goes below the GPS. I tried cutting it with a dremel and it was a disaster. What do you guys use to make clean straight cuts? What about rounded cuts? How do you proceed to trace the exact shape needed? This is my first time doing this and I feel completely lost and I'm not sure how to proceed. I sure could use some advice. Thanks a lot!

POST 2Original post

Very sharp razor knife. Just keep lightly scoring it.

POST 3Original post

I think a Dremel is too small a tool for that -- and hard to maintain control over. What I do on things like that is to start with a roughing out of the dimensions, leaving some excess. Then I go at it with a very slow belt sander. The key is to take your time. HTH.

POST 4 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Thanks guys,I'll try again and report back on my findings! Thinking about heating the ABS before cutting. Not sure if it's a good idea...

POST 5Original post

- cut yourself a template out of paper or cardboard first. - trace it on abs. - put your abs sheet on a sheet of plywood (or similar), tape down edges. - use a jigsaw with fine toothed cutting blade and slowly cut out your shape. - use fine sandpaper to smooth out the edges and you're done. GL

POST 6Original post

What about a router with a sharp blade designed for detail work? I've used them in wood many times, but never tried it on plastic.
