options on car

I just found a great site that spits out all the options on my car. You just plug in your vin and it pulls the codes. Worked like a charm for me. I thought I would share. http://www.autoatlanta.com/life/vin/vin.php?

Nice! I just tried it on my car and it came up with almost everything. However, there were no codes for all the Deviated Stitching, Exclusive options on my car. The print out will make a nice addition to my "Baby Book" for the car. Now that they have my VIN, they can decide whether to market me. LOL! The printout is not quite as pretty as the Certificate of Authenticity one can get from PCNA, but a whole lot cheaper! LOL!

Sweet! Now I know the "official" options and codes!

Just printed my option list and placed in "MY 996 Folder ". Had one printed out from the dealer but this one looks like its more detailed.

It's very interesting how they list items as options. Apparently i have option code M465 which is rear foglamp left. That's news to me!

Yes I think it is not accurate (on Porsche's part) to refer to options when 95% of the stuff on the list is standard equipment.

Mine has the rear wheel drive option.. weird, I didn't know that. lol def a cool thing to see though. :-)

Standard equipment for USA/North America can be substantially different than anywhere else in the world. Porsche Cars North America decides what equip will sell (and profit them) i.e. manadory sunroof on 911 series coupes. Rear wheel drive option? Sure, since four wheel drive is also a choice. EPA, DOT, CARB all have a say in what comes on your new Porsche. If you read down the list, you will see that every item is an elective choice, though most are already made for you. Ordering a Porsche in Mobassa, Kenya? Maybe none of the equipment seen on the list is required there. Also remember that each new body shell that starts down the line in Zuffenhausen could end up as a Carrera 2 coupe or a GT3 CUP by the time it gets to the end. All those "standard" features you refer to would not be in the latter (heated, power, side mirrors - would be simple manual mirrors in a race car).

Nice! The X51 is great option to have, especially with the sport exhaust. It appears that the original owner of my car went for every leather option they could find for their cab. It was ordered from Beverly Hills Porsche, so I guess they were going for flash and skipped the x51 option. With the x51, it would have put it up to nearly $130k. For $130k, I would have ordered a turbo instead...

But in the rest of the world, power everything, airconditioning, and power sucking audio equipment are not standard equipment, so the battery would not need to be as strong for those cars that eschew all that jazz. See post #12 on this thread.

The Technos are gorgeous wheels and pretty rare. They are my favorite factory wheel. My car originally came with standard chrome 17s *YUCK* and the second owner who bought the car as a CPO made the dealer change them out to 18-inch 5-spokes, thank goodness. Can you say Dot-com era?! These cars were flying off the showrooms. Keep in mind that the base price for a 2000 C4 was $82k. With yards and yard of leather, carbon fiber, Tip, PSM, PCM1 and a bunch of other options, it adds up really quick... I would love to see the option-specific pricing. A guy at the factory told me once that the x-code options were huge-margin money makers for Porsche. Very nicely optioned as a sports car should be. These are all the options that you really need! Your 996 is equipped nearly the same as my last 993 C2. The Locking differential 40 % is fantastic. IIRC, the M222 option is a carryover from the 993 ABD option, which my car also had. I have sport seat envy!

Hmmm...I thought these were the factory wheels. Any way, right now I have 17 inch after market turbo twist look wheels with snow tires for the winter. Curious about couple options. Was "M032 Touring suspension" standard or an option? Was there an upgrade to this? Is "701 Car-version Slant Nose" a variation of the body style? There are a lot of "Stronger Batteries" out there. Did anyone happen to get a "Weaker Battery" option?
