By semi-popular demand, I think we can get a few cars together again this year-we had a great group last year. We'll start similar to last year. We can head up South Grade to the top of Palomar, then down East Grade to the vista point for photo op. Then down to the bottom. Folks that need to be home early can head West on 76 to I-15 and home. Or, we can head up Mesa Grande for another fun leg. Then, to Julian for breakfast or back west via Highland Valley or 78 or 67 or ??
We have some phenominal roads down here, so it's on for those who want to experience our area. Short, medium or long, I think we can satisfy any driver's yearning to start the new year!
We're meeting in the parking lot of the On The Border Restaurant in the mall parking lot (NE corner of I-15 and Via Rancho/Bear Valley Pkwy) on Jan 1 for a
DEPARTURE at 7:30am.
We'll be headed up Palomar Mountain and then Mesa Grande (stage 2) down through San Ysabel and Ramona back to Escondido. You should be on your way home between 10 and 11. If you just want to run Palomar, you can scoot down the 76 to the 15 when done there.
Here is the location of the meeting spot:
Makes me want to take my wife's X5 4.8is just to join in on the fun...
...I remember the time when I took her 750i to Palomar... heheheh ...if I make it, I make it. Otherwise, you guys have fun and be safe...
I went up Palomar today with the kids in the A4. Which by the way wasn't a good thing going after lunch...... At least she tried for the window, closed window BTW but I digress, the top was COLD! 31 degrees, some ice in spots right at the very top and on the way to the observatory. There's snow in the shade on top too. There was some rocks in the road, a little amount. Nothing more than what I would have expected. I don't see an issue going up and down both sides on NYD. We just need to be aware of the ice potential.
At least I know now that she chews her food.....
