I replaced my Hi-Fi side and dash speakers with Boston Acoustic 4-1/2", the front door speakers with 5-1/2" and ran a sub box behind the rear seat with 2 JL Audio 6" subs (yeah, 6" and it bumps).

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Are there any adapters around for fitting 6 3/4" speakers in place of the standard rear speakers in a 996? I know the depth is not an issue but it looks like i am going to have to do some serious modifications to the side panels to get them to fit and even then I don't think they will go in flush. Any suggestions?

POST 2Original post

If you are talking about the side panels, I think that speaker is too large. The original size is 4 1/2". If you cut the panel to make it fit, I don't think it would look right. I replaced my Hi-Fi side and dash speakers with Boston Acoustic 4-1/2", the front door speakers with 5-1/2" and ran a sub box behind the rear seat with 2 JL Audio 6" subs (yeah, 6" and it bumps).

POST 3Original post

you have to make everything yourself. I did the boston acoustice 4 1/2 and 1" tweeter and had to cut the grill apart to make them fit , then glued in the tweeter
