Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

0 original-poster resolution reports. Counts can overlap; they are not unique people or a success rate.
0 discussions have direct query context; 0 report a fix in that context. Other evidence may inherit the discussion’s subject.
Leading evidence: 'Repair now' (1 discussions report resolution; 0 report an unsuccessful attempt). Source reports, not a diagnosis or a success probability. Counts refer to discussions and can overlap.
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

I suggest you get it fixed before it competely breaks at the most inopportune time.
same thing happened to me last week when my ignition went out. A/c would work with the key in, but stop when the car started. Only I could not get the key out - and when I did, it thought it was still in the ignition. Fixed now.
no, unfortunately I had to take it "in". There is a thread here and on renntech about doing the repair yourself with a $30 part, but my warranty covered it. It's some plastic piece in the ignition that breaks. I think it effects mostly Pre 2003 cars the most, but overall is pretty common.
Same thing just happened to me last Sat. Same symptoms to begin with (key getting harder to come out, etc.). I suggest you get it fixed before it competely breaks at the most inopportune time.
Looks like an ignition switch failure, typical issue with these 996's. Mine went out last year too and luckily my X-warranty covered it. But indeed check-out Renn tech for DIY fix, doesn't look too bad. I will try to do it myself next time around if it fails again, hope not (knock on wood)... Cheers,
Ye, I got a switch from Pelican for $35. where the dealer wants $169. I will install myself. The bad one also shorted out the battery since removing the key does not close the switch anymore. This is unacceptable for Porsche in my opinion.
