My dealer replaced my passenger window regulator at no charge because I came within a couple of days when I noticed some odd noises.

Aftermarket options (that I've noticed so far) are just the EVO air intake & 2-piece wheels, clear side markers, tinted windows, & I SUSPECT an aftermarket exhaust, but can't be sure.

When I got home I realized it has an EVO V-Flow Air Intake, & I suspect an aftermarket exhaust or something, because it's pretty loud (at least compared to my brother's 997 S).

But the guy gave me 30 days to have any problems checked & fixed under warranty & blah blah, so I'm going to have one done this week.

Just had the car inspected by Pioneer Porsche, they told me I had a SUPER CLEAN & well taken care of car.

Clutch & RMS is being done by the used car dealer I bought it from in LA (since he's doing the RMS for FREE & paying for half of the clutch), he's going to use genuine Porsche parts & blah blah, but I'm going to have the car re-inspected afterwards to make sure they did everything right anyway.

Clutch is a little stiff, & they recommend I change it before it turns into a problem, a small oil leak (RMS), & the passenger seat won't adjust up or down (although the rest of the functions work fine)...

One thing to note - I also have the EVO intake and when my MAF had problems a few years ago my local Porsche dealer replaced it, but refused to warrantee the part because they said that the intake could kill it.

These are separate views of the same evidence. Frequency alone does not establish a fix, and these counts must not be added together.

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

Hi, I've been lurking around here for the last couple months, asking questions, learning as much as I could about P-cars while I made my decision on wether to go for the 996 or a couple other cars I had in mind. Well, today I finally drove home in my new (to me) Carrera & couldn't be happier. I will soon pay for membership & will become active on the board. This really seems like a great community... Well, before I say anything else, here's a pic. (I took it with my phone so it's not so great, but more DECENT photos will come soon). I'll just leave you guys with this meanwhile so I don't get told to "post a %@#*ing picture"
By the way, how can I decode the "Options Codes" it has under the hood? Because the dealer didn't know anything about the damn car, lol. Infact, I asked him if it had any aftermarket parts installed by the previous owner (besides the cheap wheels, lol), & he told me no. When I got home I realized it has an EVO V-Flow Air Intake, & I suspect an aftermarket exhaust or something, because it's pretty loud (at least compared to my brother's 997 S). Well anyway, about the codes, help please! Thanks.
Congratulations, Raphael. I love the color. For options codes, check out the General Discussion section and look under Opt. Decoder. For any code you're unable to find, send me a PM. I'd be happy to help.
Also, find a good independent mechanic (ask for a referral on Rennlsit) and have the car inspected - kind of sounds like you might not have had a PPI done. I'm admittedly making an assumption here. So, if I'm wrong, I apologize.
How many miles are on it? What year is it? (just curious)
Have fun!
Bob
I like the color... definitely not very common. I am interested to see some more pics. However, I do find it strange that you say that you noticed the air intake AFTER you got home. A word of advice for the future... spend a bit more time investigating before you spend those hard earned dollars. It may save you a big headache down the road. Hopefully you will not uncover any issues with the car, and all will workout well.
I can understand it though - you get all excited by the new purchase and only later do you really look at the car!
That's why I always go back again before I buy - and take someone with me so I get a 2nd opinion from someone who's not all exited about getting a new Porsche!
BTW, you asked about option decoders - use these two sites and you'll get everything that you need.

Oh ya guys, sorry I forgot to post the details, all the excitement didn't let me think.
Here they are:
2002 Porsche 996 w/aero side skirts
62,000 miles
Interior is grey / Exterior is like royal blue, but very metallic, & under certain lighting you see a tiny hint of purple-ish. I'm guessing it's Zenith Blue (not really sure, but I know it's definetely not Lapis)
Aftermarket options (that I've noticed so far) are just the EVO air intake & 2-piece wheels, clear side markers, tinted windows, & I SUSPECT an aftermarket exhaust, but can't be sure.
The option codes are tiny & the sticker was kind of blurry like it got wet or something, but these are the codes(actually the one that I listed as 253/263/283 is because I couldn't tell which number it was since it was smudged):
C02: Equipped with catalyctic converter
226: ??
253/263/283: ??
413: 18" Turbo look wheels (which actually aren't on the car, lol)
425: Rear wiper
437: Comfort seat left
438: Comfort seat right
446: Parts for type "Targa" belonging to stipulated assembly / 996: Colored Wheel Crests (again, not on the car)
476: Brake pad with abrasive pad / 996: Traction control
513: Lumbar support - right seat / Driver's Seat Lumbar Support
537: Left seat with positrol and lumbar
586: Lumbar support - left seat
601: Litronic Headlights
680: Digital HI-FI Sound System with Booster
692: Remote CD changer (6-disc)
Can someone help me figure out what 226 is, as well as the other code which I couldn't even tell wether it was 253/263/283??
Also, how can I find out the exact name of the exterior color??
...By the way, you guys are right, I'm guilty. I didn't get a PPI. I know, I know, that's a no no. But the guy gave me 30 days to have any problems checked & fixed under warranty & blah blah, so I'm going to have one done this week. Do you guys recommend I go to a Porsche dealership, or an indie?
Thanks a lot for all the great response!
Any takers for my questions?? Lol.
The unkown option codes??
PPI, better at the dealership or with an indie??
As for the exterior color, I looked it up, it's cobalt blue metallic. (Kevin, you were right
)
Congrats and welcome. I'm sure you'll enjoy the ride. You might want to join renntech.org as well because for a small donation you will have a wealth of info available to you, include option decoding and TSB history on our cars. You'll find a lot of terrific and very helpful folks here on rennlist.
Congrats. Now that's blue! It's so bright. Can't wait to see more pictures. I hope you post them soon. Enjoy and good luck. I stuck to the conventional silver.
It could be 233 - for original tire Pirelli.
If you have an independent mechanic that knows Porsches - that's where I'd head.
I don't think your car is still under waranty and therefore, if your dealer is like the dealer in my neighborhood, he is looking for things to do and it may not be the best thing for you.
Nice ride and very fine details.
Do you think someone ordered it, and someone updated it. Interior options abound to match exterior I bet it was a little something nice first owner liked.
You can tell if it has a sport exhaust, but if no receipt or for some of the other things may be an indication.
Your mechanic will be serious Porsche tech. If you dont have one ( I bet you been to a few Porsche shops though) find one or the dealer will put you into training. Your mechanic will invest a lot of money in software and charge accordingly.
Thought about doing stuff on your own? Fresh water, oil, polish? Brakes, etc? Heck show us how to align it next right?
Regards,
Congrats, and be sure to get back to the dealer asap with questions or problem areas.
My dealer replaced my passenger window regulator at no charge because I came within a couple of days when I noticed some odd noises.
Also, add your location to your profile please, you'll get local suggestions and meet local folks here.
No one knows what 226 is...every 996 has it...something like "Auto equipped with engine & wheels" So how much? We all need to know how fast our cars are depreciating!!! Looks to be in nice shape. Looks like aftermarket exhaust...your tips are sticking out farther than normal from the angle you shot. Note my sig...same angle & setup shot!
Congratulations on the Porsche. Thats a very nice color. You say the wheels are cheap; I think they look nice. What kind are they. Whos the ruffian in the picture having a bad hair day?
GL
Thanks, I'm loving it so far, & yes, the color really stands out. Taking it tomorrow for an inspection, hopefully everything checks out... Yes, the wheels do look nice, kind of like BBS style, I'm just assuming they're cheap since I'd never heard of the brand, but I'm not sure actually. The brand is called "Monarch." Do you know what they go for? I want to know what I can get for them. They're 19's, I want to go down to 18's, possible GT3 style or something similiar to the 997 Sport Designs.
...By the way, I'm the ruffian with the bad hair day after a day of driving with the windows & sunroof open like this
Just pulling your chain. The wheels are Monarchs 410 style. They are a small boutique maker that focuses on aggressive fitment and funky style. They are on the heavy side at 25 to 27 pounds each. Monarch are manufactured and distributed by J2. You can get a J2 410-S wheel for about $175 each.
Just had the car inspected by Pioneer Porsche, they told me I had a SUPER CLEAN & well taken care of car. It only has minor, typical problems. Clutch is a little stiff, & they recommend I change it before it turns into a problem, a small oil leak (RMS), & the passenger seat won't adjust up or down (although the rest of the functions work fine)... The dealer I bought it from is going to do the RMS for free (with the genuine updated Porsche part) & the clutch at about 1/4th the price that Porsche would do it for, haven't asked about the seat yet, but I'll make him do it for free, lol.
Also, at Pioneer they recommended that I let them put the stock intake, headers, & cats. My car has B&B headers & cats, & an EVO air intake. They said the intake will damage the MAF, & that the headers & cats are not recommended by them. The guy said, "we don't take too kindly to aftermarket parts here at Porsche." Will those parts really cause damage? Or do they just want the car stock & of course sell me their parts & service?
The dealerships always delight in listing anything on the car that's 'not approved'.
It's part of their 'cover my ***' strategy - in case anything ever goes wrong.
Hoehn up here in Carlsbad gave me disapproving stares when I put the 997 wheels on my 996, and noted that I'd fitted non N Rated tyres and non Porsche rotors and pads.... Give me a break!
Who's doing your clutch and RMS? Hope it's not Black Forest - I've heard bad reports from clutch and RMS work there.
Good indie is All German Auto in Escondido - best I've found in the area
Ya, that's what I thought. It seemed more like it bothered them that it had aftermarket stuff, rather than them having an actual concern of it causing problems.
You live in Carlsbad? I'm studying up there at GIA.
One thing to note - I also have the EVO intake and when my MAF had problems a few years ago my local Porsche dealer replaced it, but refused to warrantee the part because they said that the intake could kill it.
... that was almost 4 years ago and I've not had a single problem.
As other said, Porsche dealers can be a little particular when they see parts that they don't like.
I can help. A tech that used to work for me at our old shop Porsche exclusive shop Mind Over Motorsports (now closed) is working on his own (Porsche trained, was also a tech at Pioneer Porsche). He has a facility but will also come to you for PPI, service, mods, etc... Call Ryan Calvert @ [phone removed]. He will be a lot less expensive than other local options and stands behind his work - lots of our old street and track customers now go to him directly. Please tell him I referred you. Just a note on your aftermarket intake. We used to have an entire shelf dedicated to the one's we pulled off 996's with space next to it for the blown MAF from the same car. Just food for thought since the gains (if any) are next to nothing if not in fact - a loss.
Nice car, great color BTW.
