Within a week he was at my local indy complaining that it wasn't running right and after a 10 min look over by a tech, it was discovered that there was more oil in the coolant overflow reservoir than coolant.

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

Hello - I'm new to the forums. Finally considering getting my second Porsche (first was as boxster) and upgrade to the 911's! I love convertibles, so I'm only looking at Cabriolets right now. Was wondering what you guys thought of a 1999 Silver on Black C2 Cabriolet for 25k. It has 72k miles though =T.
Also, do you guys know a good place in the Bay Area/SF to get a PPI done? How much do they normally run?
Thanks in advance!
Eric
25K...wow that's cheap...and **** is my P that cheap!! I think I am going to keep mine till the day I die..or give it to my kid when he turns 20 or so.
goodluck and post images when purchased....PPI should run you anywhere from 175-250 I think.
Get a PPI!!! No such thing as a cheap Porsche. A local guy brought up a 2000 Cab from the US that he paid less than $30K for. Didn't do a PPI because it looked perfect cosmetically. Within a week he was at my local indy complaining that it wasn't running right and after a 10 min look over by a tech, it was discovered that there was more oil in the coolant overflow reservoir than coolant. Only solution, reman engine from Porsche. Cost: $13,600 engine + $7000 for replacing contaminated hoses, R & R engine, new clutch & flywheel, brakes, other undiscovered issues, etc, etc, etc...
So in saving $200 for a PPI, he ended up spending close to $50K for a "bargain" MY 2000 911...oh and that's not including the importation duty of 6.1% and various federal and provincial taxes. Ouch!
Yeah, get a PPI. Don't be scared of 72k miles, either.
I would want to know how much oil it consumes, also. I have 116k miles on mine and it doesn't drip or burn ANY oil in between changes (7500 miles or so). That's a sign of a nice, tight engine. If it's burning a quart every 1000miles or more, I'd be wary.
Check the rear window. 1999 - 2001 had plastic rear windows that are notorious for delaminating (the window separates from the canvas). You can have a new plastic window sewn in for $800 - $1,000 or replace the top for $1,500 - $2,000. Maybe yours has already been done. If there is stiching around the window, it's been replaced.
