I know for sure i have it installed since the cops pulled me over today for having one but couldn't find it.

My car came with a recent install of K40, to me is ineffective, so installed V1.
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

I have had K40 for over 5 years. First in the 996 Cab, now in the C4S Cab. I have V-1's in two other vehicles.
I love the K40 remote w/laser defuser simply because it's entirely hidden. There is NOTHING in my vehicle anyone can see. The lights are hidden and show only enough to get my attention, it works very well in city/hwy driving, and I only need the chirp or light to get my attention.
On the V-1, though a great on-glass detector, you have to look at it to figure out what's going on, and at speed, I don't want to do that.
If you want stealth install, get the K40.
Nice thing was, when I upgraded the car, my installer sent my stuff in on the old K40 and got all new sensors and switches. Was not much $$ at all.
I have one - I did have a malfuntion - but the K40 people were super nice about it. Instead of charging me the $100+ for the part they charged me much less and sent it directly to the installer for me. Had it for about 2 years now and it works fine.
Had mine for 1.5 years now.
Much more effective than my Bel on-glass detector, but not quite as good as my friend's V1.
If I had it to do over again, I would do a stealth V1 install. It winds up costing as much as a K40, but you get the performance of a V1.
I have the K40 installed - because I hate having a detector on the glass - but I broke down and got a V1. I have run them side by side for 1,000's of miles and the V1 is FAR superior.
I suppose experiences might differ, but when I plugged my buddy's V1 into my K40 equipped car and went for a ride in a heavily radared area, the V1 had only a SLIGHT advantage over the K40.
In all honesty, however, my windows do have metallic tint which admittedly reduces the performance of ANY on-glass detector.
My conclusion:
If you have metallic window tint, the K40 may still be your best bet.
My car came with a recent install of K40, to me is ineffective, so installed V1. K40 beeping so much you become confused with is fact or fiction. I like the stealth K40 install, but want the arrows knowing where radar may be.
Radar detectors will not go off at the mere presence of a police car (a surprisingly common misconception). Radar detectors only detect active microwave radar signals, such as those from a police radar gun (usually K & superwide Ka band) or automatic door openers (X-band like at the grocery store or pharmacy).
K40 antennae are usually installed hidden inside the front bumper and hidden inside either of the tail-light assemblies. You would not be able to see either of these installations without some work.
LEDs are usually placed somewhere inside the instrument cluster (for experienced installers) or on the batwing (for inexperienced installers). The control **** is usually under the steering column or on the bulkhead near your knees (experienced) and again on the batwing (for unexperienced).

The installation I have is better then the experienced install your talking about.
I know for sure i have it installed since the cops pulled me over today for having one but couldn't find it. They found it though a device they have called the specter. At least that what they called it. So basically the k40 is useless becuase the can detect it.
Thinks it probably better idea to detect their radio signal then radar or I've heard they are puuting gps in all their vechicals so maybe their is a way to detect gps communication.
If you're worried about it being detected, install a kill switch under the dash, I've thought of wiring up a switch I can operate with my foot, that way if I get pulled, I just kill it. As it stands my power switch is under the dash but I have to bend over a bit to shut it off, but with tinted windows the coppers can't see me bend over and shut it off....and you know they'll never find it if they can't detect it.
Where I live, this is a very very useful feature.
I had the K40 in my old S500 and was not impressed by the kit. I run the V1 and Lidatek setup now and in my opinion think it is way more solid than the K40.
